Northern is the only location we patronize for fresh fish that we prepare at home. Atvleast once a week we stop by: varieties of salmon, cod, clams, mussels, oysters, steelhead, halibut, scallops, rockfish--we have eaten them all. The employees will cut filets to order. The fish is fresh and tasty. Northern supplies other retail places with fish, but why bother with their delivery schedule when we can go straight to the source? In addition to fresh fish, their varieties of smoked salmon are delicious. The employees are always friendly and helpful..

The customer service here leaves a lot to be desired. Three ladies were behind the counter, one was helping a customer and so while the other two chatted each other up, I waited to order some oysters.The lady working seemed irritated and annoyed by my questions regarding the oysters, pointing at the signs as if they had the answer to what I was asking; they did not. For some reason I didn't walk out and decided to order a dozen, only to ask the price, since they price wasn't easily identifiable. Then she made sure to tell me I interrupted her counting and so she would need to start again.Really odd interaction, to say the least.

I don't know how you manage to serve fried prawn cold. The prawns were still grey. Or have grease dripping out of your french fries but these folks managed to pull off messing up fried food. Not to mention the fried fish was sitting in the warmer and came dry as hell.

Leaving a one star just for the woman working the fish and chips desk today (April 20th, 2024 @ 11:10AM). Before I could even walk to the window, she said “you have to tie up your dog outside). That’s fine, but my dog is small and would freak out due to separation anxiety so I asked if I could just order from the window (why else would you have a window) she rudely said “nope” and slammed the window closed. Not very dog friendly for a location that’s mostly a dog walking area. This is usually my go to place for seafood for the past few years, this is the first time I experienced poor customer service.

I bought their seaweed salad, and I loved it!! I also bought their smoked salmon spread. It was good, but the lemon zest kinda threw me off a little bit, but it was still good. It's in a great place to pick up some stuff and have a picnic on the beach nearby.

Food is always really delicious. My favorite clam chowder I’ve ever had and the prawns are always fresh. The food itself here deserves a 5 star review but unfortunately the customer service is always the downfall, maybe a 1-2 star for friendless. Rude woman behind the counter almost every time we’ve gone in. But we keep going back for the food, it’s definitely my favorite spot in Tacoma to grab a quick seafood lunch from, just wish the employees were more friendly!

Best spot for seafood in Tacoma. Take a walk, go on the pier, and then sit down for some fish and chips or delicious salmon or clam chowder. You can't beat it.
