I was skeptical about trying this place because of the mix reviews, but I’m so glad I tried this place for myself. I’ve been here a little bit over a year and always passed this place up because of the reviews but, I must say the service was so good. The food was so good to me, though the catfish strips tasted a little burnt like the grease needed to be changed. The chicken was fresh those candy yams so good but a little on the sweet side and the mac & cheese was good the corn cake and that lemonade is good. I just wish it was a little bit tart but other than that I love this place and I would definitely try it again. Only thing is it took a while to get my food because it was so busy.

Menu emphasizes seafood and seasonal farm-to-table options
Whoever cooked the greens I ordered today deserves a raise. They were so perfect! It's noon Oct. 6th - whoever made these, thank you! And please don’t ever change the recipe.

Amazing small restaurant, with good seating capacity. Service was excellent. Love the happy comment & local events wall. Authentic Southern cuisine, good prices and portions. They're as close to real Southern style food we've found yet in the PNW (we're from the Midwest). Comfort food at it's finest!
Excellent food, excellent service, great value. You won't go home hungry and you'll feel welcome and enjoy a delicious meal. Bright and upbeat with a touch of soul, the atmosphere is great for individuals, small groups and families who want a comfortable diner style sit-down or for take-home.
They fry to perfection. Not greasy, crispy light batter, moist inside and not overcooked. I really appreciate the ample amount of food for the price too. The service is super friendly, fast and very attentive to any needs you may have. When he saw that our daughter finished her amazing lemonade, he brought over a big mason jar of water for her without even having to ask.
If you live in or are visiting Tacoma, definitely swing by and get some delicious food. You won't be disappointed.

So. Good. The service was awesome, the sweet tea was almost too sweet but so good anyway, the mashed potatoes, corn cakes, and candied yams will live in my heart forever, and the catfish was exactly what I wanted it to be.

Last night I arrived and ordered our food around 7pm. Spent $46 on a fry chicken platter with two sides with yam and Mac. I also got a lemonade and fried chicken sandwich. The sides were small. I asked the guy if it automatically comes with cornbread he said yes. When I arrived home and unpack my food not only were the portions small but the cornbread was missing !!!!! That’s literally what I really came to try. Are you kidding me ?! Besides that the yams tasted and smelled like it was sitting in the kitchen. I’m not sure how to describe it. It’s like you can taste the smell of the environment if that makes sense. I didn’t like that and my 6 year old who loves yams didn’t even want them off my plate lol. The chicken wasn’t as flavorful as I thought and the breast or thigh they gave me wasn’t really all the way done cooking. Maybe because I’m a chef the food wasn’t impressive to me. But if you don’t know anything about real soul food you would like it. More seasoning and the chicken needs to be done, bigger portions for the price is needed and whatever or however the yams are being stored or if they were old.. something needs to be done and make sure the people get their CORNBREAD for take out !!!!Thank you. I’d probably try again in a year on a drunk night. Besides all that food took about 30mins. BEST THING FROM MY ORDER WAS THAT DAMN STRAWBERRY LEMONADE. If you look at the dine in plate sizes to mine.. you could see a difference. Don’t do that to people we spending our hard earned working money on your place of business, especially in this economy with inflation at all time high. Please put some respect on our dollars spent. Thank you.

Waited 15 minutes for my order that was supposed to be ready. Pretty lame. Only one table being served too, so that just screams laziness
Been going here since I was a kid. Lemonade are the best in town. I like my food a bit more salty, but no worries. Ha. Very good and everyone is always super friendly ❤️
