One of the easiest and cheapest ways to elevate your home espresso (or any brewing method) is to get better coffee. While it's fairly easy to find and ship good coffee, getting it locally can be trickier. I'm happy to report: I've found it.9 Bar Espresso makes some amazing roasts that stand above many other local-to-Vancouver offerings. For my first order I picked up a bag of the Ethiopia Guji Natural and their decaf. Many roasters hugely under roast natural processed coffees leaving them overly acidic, or go full city and lose the fruit altogether. This was perfectly balanced. Heavy on the complex fruit without the one-note acidity. The decaf is also above par, without some of the odd nuttier notes you find in some decaf coffees.Corey—the owner and roaster—was friendly and very knowledgeable, with a clear passion for excellent coffee. I can't wait to try more!

Our company had the amazing opportunity to be located nearby 9 Bar Espresso for a number of years and they were always our go to for a rich, smooth, and aromatic cup of coffee. We have since moved our business 3,000 miles to the east coast of the United States. Yet, we still order our coffee from 9 Bar Espresso. That is how great this place is. I can't believe I haven't discovered this place sooner!I have tried countless things to dial in my espresso - capable equipment, PID kit, machine upgrades, adjusting pressure, temperature, tamping techniques, pre-infusion, different "brands" of beans, ETC.But I still wasn't getting great shots like I wanted.I was starting to think it was impossible for me to learn to make great espresso, or I was just missing something.The right beans made all the difference.I got the Flagship espresso roast home today and everything changed. Even with the grind still too fine, the first shot blew me away.The most expensive "well reviewed" beans available at the store don't hold a candle to this.Where has this been all my life?Corey showed my daughter and I the roaster and chatted with me a bit about getting the most out of his beans.I live in BattleGround but I'll be traveling down to Vancouver for these glorious beans from now on.
