This was a wonderful place to eat. I loved our excellent server he was, you didn't wait long, best food ever. Good drinks. The food was so delicious, the mousse was the best. It was in Vancouver we used to have one here in Oregon but closed down. Wish we had it again, running out closed down stores, and restaurants. Man, this place is running of good places to eat.
Thank you for your service, and wonderful food.
The food was wonderful, just as I remember enjoying over many years, first at the original Der Rhinelander in NE Portland near where I grew up, then through the Gustav's rebranding. I'm delighted this one lone Gustav's is still in business and thriving, keeping the traditions Chef and owner Horst Megar himself would be proud of. My friend and I came for dinner and started off with the fondue with sausage and a pretzel. We enjoyed it very much, and our waitress brought us eye and sourdough bread for the rest of the fondue. The fondue is a must have if you're going. The Hungarian chicken with Paprika and mushroom sauce was a delicious entree served with spatzel. My friend had the grilled salmon with mashed potatoes which she said was excellent! It sure looked good. For dessert we each had chocolate mousse, though it was a tough decision with so many mouth watering choices to select from. The mousse was whipped and light, just perfect for a hot day outside. The building is very Bavarian outside and in with lively paintings and castle style banners gracing the walls and high ceilings the restaurant feels like being in the Alps without the jet lag or hours of driving to get to Leavenworth, WA. Gustav's is a delightful dining experience. I'm so glad to have found it here in Vancouver, WA and that the experience is still the same high quality as I remember. The staff was attentive and very gracious, serving customers with care and pride. I'll be back again soon with family and friends for another great dining experience!
Service was uneven due to lounge seating which typically don't have designated service roles whereas dining rooms do!
The Hungarian Jagerschnitzel with Marsala Paprika Sauce, mashed potatoes and Seasonal Veggies were delicious! Good portions and very satisfying!
Really excellent service and food. I highly recommend it.

We had a wonderful dinner at Gustav’s in Vancouver today. Food was so good and our waitress, Alexandra, was so nice! We will definitely return. I really missed Gustav’s after the Clackamas location closed and didn’t realize this location was still open until a friend suggested it. The inside of the restaurant is very nice, service was friendly and efficient, and the food arrived hot and tasty.

The owner/manager was incredibly kind!!!
Let’s start with the hostess, upon coming in she was not pleasant in the slightest. She was rude and not patient at all. She told us to sit down while waiting, we were standing waiting to put our name down since she said there would be a wait, but she never communicated so we had no idea we could sit down.
She took our water bottle and said no outside drinks when water if free (was snarky about it).
The bread was stale with the fondue.
Kids meals came out bland and cold. The potato pancakes were burnt thin piles of grease.
Nothing special to the adult entrees. When I figure out how to add a pic, I will.
The owner or manager came out without asking for one to apologize about the kids meals and removed two of them. He was incredibly kind, and even brought out a desert on the house to take home. The service needs to take a lesson from him!! Thank you for recognizing the mistakes made and attending to them. Your awareness goes a long way!!

My husband and I frequent Gustav’s because it is near our house and the food is consistent. I usually get the salmon and swap the mashed potatoes for spaetzel and my husband orders some other delicious but more meaty item from the menu. We also indulge in the cheese fondue or a delicious dessert on occasion. It’s all been excellent along with the service. I have never had one complaint.
Tonight, after a long unexpected day of work on a Saturday, my husband and I made a quick reservation and came to Gustav’s for dinner. My husband was starting to get a headache because of caffeine withdrawals and asked Enrique for a diet coke, which immediately appeared at our table. My husband sucked that coke down in two seconds, noticing this, Enrique brought him an entire beer stein of diet Coke!! This gesture really made my husband’s day, it might have been the first time I have seen him smile all week. Thank you!!
We then ordered our usual meals from Ella, who was fantastic! She, along with all of Gustav’s servers and staff, was kind, helpful, and swift. Looking forward to our next visit already!

It wasn't busy but there was a 10 minute wait. Not too bad, or so we thought. They sat us in the bar, the booth seats were torn and looked worse for the wear. The bar was empty, but the bartender made a comment to the hostess about being to busy for a table, again, there was not a single other person seated in this bar. She reluctantly agreed to serve us. We waited about 20 minutes at the table to place a drink order. It took forever to get a beer, ice tea and a cup of coffee. We finally got our food order in when she brought drinks. It took 1 hour to get our food. I had a salad, it was tiny, and potato pancakes that were cold and mushy. My husband's sandwich was cold and frankly looked a little sad. I miss having good restaurants... I feel like quality has gone downhill everywhere. My grandfather was one of the original accordion players for the rhinelander, so I have such fond memories of this place, but can't justify going back because of the cost, poor quality and lack of service.
