Sorry, this is a bit long but I need to paint the picture a bit….Let me start by saying that my family really likes Heathen and when I was asked where I wanted to go for Father’s Day with my family, I chose Feral Public House. I was super excited once we arrived until I made the deadly sin of walking in the “Employee Entrance”….. And, the bar tender (the shorter one with black hair and several tattoos on one arm) made sure I knew about it. She immediately said to me (in frustration) without even looking at me and said “that’s the employee entrance”. She did not have any eye contact but I knew she was talking to me and then she walked away. I was totally caught off guard by how rude she was. Anyway, I followed her over to the register and proceeded to order my drink. I told her that I was just on autopilot and did not notice that it was the employee entrance and she was super short in everything she was doing and being super unprofessional. I asked if there was a sign on the outside door and she rudely said “yep, there’s a sign”. I apologized for not noticing it and, because of the way she was acting and treating me, I told her that she is coming across as being rude. She then tried to backtrack a bit and say that she was just trying to tell me that this is the employee entrance and there are waiters coming through that door with food which I absolutely understand. I told her that it was a mistake and that she could have been more courteous in the way she responded and told me this information. Her body language and the tone of her voice was very unprofessional.
Then, after getting my drink, I inadvertently started walking toward the same door, then caught myself. You see the location of the door is in a place that, logically, most customers would just go that way so that’s what I did and stopped myself long before getting close to the door and turned toward the customer door located on the other end of the bar. Anyway, as I stopped myself, I hear this same bartender yell at the top of her lungs (and that’s not an exaggeration) in front of every customer in the bar “excuse me sir, can you please not use the employee door? Thank you.”. I was completely blown away at how incredibly rude she was and how a simple mistake could ruffle her feathers so much that she would yell at me in front of everyone.
I was upset and thought about how I could make my Father’s Day experience be as positive as possible so, even though I felt that I was NOT in the wrong, I went in and apologized for anything I did to escalate the situation. Her response was to refuse to shake my hand and proceeded to tell me in a very condescending way “you just go enjoy your time with your family. You were clearly in an angry mood so just go enjoy your family. “. That made me even more frustrated since I was just trying to de-escalate and just be the bigger person. Nope, she wanted none of it.
And finally, it was further frustrating to hear members of my family come back from the bar after ordering and mentioned to me that this bar tender was talking to customers in line and other co-workers out loud about how rude I was and details about the interaction. Again, super unprofessional!
We will go there again as we have really enjoyed this place for years and the food and drink (and the other staff) are great. I really hope we can avoid this super rude bartender. I really hope this message finds its way to management and that there are discussions with this individual that lead to a more professional interaction with every paying customer. Thank you.

Every time we've been to Heathen Brewing, we've been welcomed warmly, except today. I left the house determined to go somewhere else, but on the way there I decided that my favorite cider, Apple Crispy, would be the best option. So we went to the Washington St. location. We were embarrassed by the service we received from one particular person. When she was talking to her coworkers, she seemed in a good mood, but the three or four times we interacted with her, the service was horrible. It seemed like we were the problem. The food was great and the drinks were excellent as always. We'll be back because it was a one-off, but I hope to be served by someone else.

Stopped for a bite and beer on a trip to Portland. Great food, beer and atmosphere.

Terrible service, we waited almost an hour for 2 dry overcooked burgers. Fries were cold and unappetizing. Have been here several times and service is hit or miss depending on who's working. Sadly the staff turnover seems high and they can't keep good staff around for long.

Burger was incredibly overdone to the point where the edges were not just charred but actively scorched. Significantly more important than that, however, is that a patron was not told that there was an ingredient in one of the side dishes that they were allergic to, despite other patrons being told that when they ordered the item. The patron spoke to staff about it and was treated incredibly rudely and mocked for asking about something that was allegedly listed on the venue's website, but all that is listed on the website is that there are gluten free items. Spice tolerance is not the same for everyone, and even if it were, not disclosing ingredients that can cause an allergic reaction to all customers and then blaming the customer for it and refusing them a refund is INCREDIBLY unprofessional and if it had been a serious reaction could be grounds for a lawsuit against the business, especially because the customer asked beforehand and some other patrons were told in advance about the ingredients but not all. If I were that customer, I would have filed a much more involved public complaint, but unfortunately I am only reviewing on behalf of a friend. This venue is careless with its menu labeling, tasteless with its food, and reprehensible in its behavior to customers who suffered severe illness symptoms as a result of their poor communication.

Dope spot, great beer!

Stood at the bar to order beer. Got ignored while others obviously known by the bartenders got immediate service. Came here to try out a new brewery and were a bit disappointed by the tasting experience. Will not return.

Lots of choices, good service, tasty food, but extremely loud music meant we didn't linger over our dinner and may not return.

Just walked out because no one seemed to want to serve us.

We come in at least once a month and like both locations. Everything we’ve had here has been yummy and service is always friendly and helpful. Go to place to find dark beers year round. The pizza crusts are crisp, chicharrones are hard to stop eating, burgers are good, brunch is good too! Kids menu is a typical kids meal and filling. Oh and great patio!

Awesome place to visit. Super friendly staff and management. Great drinks and food. My favorite might be the Nitro Cold Brew they serve ;)
