We love this McMenamins and frequent it once every 2 or 3 months. Typically the staff is friendly, the service great, and the food wonderful. Last night, however, it was not. We arrived at just after 9:00 pm ready to get a couple of beers and fish n chips. We waited for some time to be greeted. The restaurant looked to be less than half full. We were finally greeted by a waitress who shoved two menus in my husband’s hand and said, “Sit anywhere, you have 20 minutes.” I looked at my watch. It was 9:11. I thought they closed at 10:00. We seated ourselves. We were quick to order when the waitress came. She told us we had one choice of ale, as they were out of all others. She brought our food quickly and disappeared (for us). We ate our food, drank our one beer and would have ordered more but we were never approached again. I ran out of water. She did approach with a bill at about 9:45. My husband then took his CC up to her. She told him she’d bring the device to him and he paid. We left. We were out by 9:55 and there were still several customers she was waiting one who were there already when we got there. From start to finish, we felt as if we were an inconvenience to her. My husband typically leaves substantial tips. Since we received only basic service and were treated actually very rudely, he did not.

McMenamins is good as long as you have a few hours to spare waiting at your table.... Maybe they need to pay more so they can be properly staffed?
I went here for my dad's birthday and we all ordered the fish and chips. My nephews ordered the kids pizzas which were absolutely delicious, except for the cheese was completely falling off which is understandable, but not really especially if you're giving it to a child and it should be cooled off and ready for them to eat. I did not appreciate the way the waiter ignored us, and we had to get his attention for things which is understandable if it was busy, but it was in the afternoon. the food was really good but the service needs some work with attention and attitude.

This is my favorite spot especially during the summertime. We take our English Bulldog and sit outside during happy hour. Great drinks, friendly staff.only wish they would rotate their menu.

The only reason this cringe-worthy experience didn't get a 1 star review is because Tamara made this such a #2 situation that 1 star simply doesn't cut it. The bar is dirty, sloppy and the service is lackluster. Tamara, the assistant manager who likes to yell loudly at customers instead of address concerns, thinks it's acceptable to be argumentative about it being "her space" when we attempted to address the less than satisfactory situation we and others in the establishment were experiencing. The absolute worst and disappointing, McMenamins experience ever.

I've heard great things about McMenamins and finally decided to try the East Vancouver location. It was very disappointing. Both the food and the customer service was poor. Their menu online does not match what they offer. The online menu states salad and soup as a side option, however when I ordered they told me the only thing offered are fried options. I have a severe allergy to canola oil and I couldn't eat any of their sides. I told them no side for my burger and they still decided to put tots in my container. They were not transparent about what oil is in their food and what is cooked in the oil, I had a very severe allergic reaction. Aside from getting sick from the oil, the food at this location is BAD. The burger tasted like it was cooked at the beginning of the day and reheated, the burger actually cut my mouth when chewing, and the bread tasted stale. The customer service was horrible when picking up the order. The restaurant wasn't busy, yet the man behind the bar was very rude for no apparent reason. I dont recommend this location and honesty I don't know if I will ever try another location with how horrible this experience was.
