We stopped by to check out the menu and chatted with an employee about hours, and need for reservation. Turned out that we weren't able to come back to dine due to our schedule....After the fact, we read all of the reviews, which we always take with a grain of salt- however in this case, we were a little alarmed by the responses from restaurant ownership- very defensive, repeatedly, when folks didn't give a high rating. We do recognize that there are always 2 sides to every story, and we love Mexican food, so were a bit disappointed to not have been able to dine here at the time- but maybe it was a blessing in disguise.

Super friendly service by Carlos and the other lady at the front which I didn't get the name of. Chips and salsa were an additional charge but we definitely enjoyed it along with an order of guacamole. The entrees are a bit spendy but the portions are gigantic. There is a kids menu which included unlimited soda refill which thrilled the kids. Lots of tables and easily accommodated our party of 8. We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area. We've always had a pleasant experience here. Definitely Mexican American food - so if you're looking for super authentic Mexican you'll be disappointed. But that doesn't mean it's bad. The service has always been friendly. And the jalapeño marguerites are the bomb - order one and see for yourself. In a tourism destination where you don't HAVE to be good to survive, this restaurant does a good job of sending people off happy.

We live locally and eat here occasionally. We had the 3 item combo meal, chicken enchilada, beef burrito and beet tostada. All were good. Service was good, atmosphere was good, the margarita and coffee were also good. Definitely deserves a rating higher than 3.9. I recommend Carlos 1800 when you are in Winthrop. As with all the local restaurants, don't expect to get in and out quickly. As a tourist town we are feast and famine, which means restaurants are not able to staff the way establishments elsewhere can. I will definitely go back to Carlos 1800, my wife and I enjoyed our evening and meal there.

Service - good, friendly. Cleanly. Food - expensive and white washed. Rice had no flavor and none of our entrees had any seasoning. I got a carne asada burrito and my husband I were both questioning if the meat was still good. Chips & Salsa - one notch above spaghetti sauce and you have to pay $5 for it? And there wasn't even hot sauce on the table? Overall, 2 stars for the service. My husband and I love eating Mexican east of the cascades whenever we are over to visit family or hunting.... We definitely won't be back

Has nice curb appeal but you’ll realize there’s zero atmosphere or ambiance once you go inside. There you’ll find a mediocre menu with a high price tag. Beans and rice seemed like they come from cans. Nothing tasted very fresh. What Mexican restaurant charges $6 for chips and salsa?
My moms side is Hispanic so I know good Mexican food, and this place should not legally be able to say it sells Mexican food.
