I had made a reservation to dine in the dining room at Sun Mountain Lodge. We were seated in the bar however. it was my husband's 70th birthday and I wanted to be special, and it turned out not to be special at all overworked, bartender, serving people, and not caring whether you had a good experience or not very disappointing.
The food was good, but the entrees were small. However, the bowl of soup my wife and I each had with our entree was surprisingly generous.
Sun Mountain Lodge is a fine dining experience set among the North Cascade Mountain peaks. The restaurant and bar menu selections are top shelf and delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful. My husband and I come from families that include chefs and gourmets, so we are definitely connoisseurs who recognize quality. Sun Mountain Lodge did not disappoint. We are long-time visitors to the Methow Valley and even when we are camping or staying elsewhere, we always try to make it to the restaurant for a meal, breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The vista from both the restaurant and bar are what we fondly call: The Best View of Winthrop from Winthrop. And the window tables in the restaurant are my favorite places to sit.
unfortunately got stuck with an inexperienced server, who couldn't answer basic questions or describe the food items on the menu. After ordering, brought in the wrong pasta dish (a pesto instead of bolognese) and initially said we had was the right dish, finally admitting a few minutes later that it was a mistake and brought in the right dish. Never apologized or offered to make amends. Very surprising as we've had good experience previously.
Beautiful view! Our server was very courteous and appropriately attentive. The food was delicious and the ambiance was warm, cozy, and romantic.
The service left a lot to be desired. Our food came out like warm at best. We had to ask for bread after our dinner was delivered along with water refills. Our server never came back to ask how our meal was. We will not done there again.
The view and ambience were great!! We were disappointed in our server it seemed we were an inconvenience to him. The food for the price was a huge letdown for $375 for two I was expecting to be wowed by the food and it was not!
On a trip to Winthrop during the week we were left with nowhere to have breakfast. Found this place on google maps. it was an amazing breakfast. My friend got the eggs benedict and I got the standard bacon breakfast. we were both very impressed.

My bartender allowed me to trade out a drink that I did not care for. He was the perfect level of conversational without disturbing my meal. I had two solo meals and a family meal and I enjoyed all three. The best dish that I ordered was the avocado toast. The Caesar salad with steak was also yummy.
Listen to the reviews. I wish I had looked ahead of time. The fish and chips that was wildly expensive was a comically tiny portion of one very small piece of fish. It was dry and didn't even taste great to make up for the ridiculous portion size and astronomical price. The view and drinks will be more worth your while. Skip the food! Not worth it!

I was worried about eating here after reading reviews. But didn't want to go to town after driving all day. I'm glad I read all the negative reviews because my surprise made it that much better. I'm a food snob and found every single dish to be above average. My friend and I shared small plates. Salmon cakes, the prawns, the goat cheese/strawberry (dish? spread?), and Faro salad. The cakes were excellent. the bacon wrapped prawns are a basic dish but the preparation made them better than basic. the real winners though were the faro salad and the goat cheese/strawberry dish. holy hellll. So good. My friend and I shared and still left full. We also left a small amount of food on the table. To be fair both of us think portion sizes in most restaurants are ridiculously big. If you don't, then maybe order appetizers pre entre. The service was also very good. If comparing it to a five star L.A/NYC/Vegas restaurant it's not exactly that. But it was prompt and friendly. We also ate breakfast in the dining room. I had the blueberry pancakes and again, another usually basic dish that was above and beyond. The great food combined with the incredible view made it a real winner.

We got only a table for 5.30pm, but when we left at 7 there was plenty of tables. Service and food was good, but too much insects (flies) around. When dinner open at 5 and we had our bramble a 5.30 there have been a lot of flies at the inside of the window. We changed desks but when the food was served we had to fight hard with the insects, until next customers came in.
Same story
I know it an country side place, but the Dinning room should be bug free at least when they open.
200+ USD dinner for two should be bug free

The Dining Room is what we call in the South “too big for its britches.” The servers we encountered were friendly but seemed a bit inexperienced to deliver the level of service one is paying for in a “higher end” restaurant. Most of the food options we had were *fine*. Not four-star, just fine. My feeling after eating there was that, if they did not have a captive audience (guests staying at the lodge), the prices would be half of what they were. For reference, the closest alternatives (excluding the “bar & grill” that shares the same kitchen) are about 20 minutes away. In hindsight, at over $50 per person, I would drive into town for my next meal.
Vegetarian options: Bare minimum vegetarian options.
Dietary restrictions: Careful when ordering options not marked vegetarian. The appetizer I ordered that I expected to be vegetarian was in beef broth.

The breakfasts in the lodge are always such a cheerful experience. The staff is happy and accommodating, and the food, especially on the weekends, is well-prepared. Of course, it goes without saying that the view is wonderful. We love going there every summer!
Food, service, ambiance, everything was amazing! Juan couldn't have been more attentive, stellar service. VERY pleased and would long to return if I didn't live on the other side of our beautiful Nation.
