I love the food and service at Purple Cafe in Woodinville, but it is so loud with no acoustical dampening that I have to shout across the table for my wife to hear me. I would really love it if they could add some dampening material to their restaurant as many other restaurants have done and then it could be busy but not an echo chamber.
The restaurant was so noisy that our 3-person party was unable to visit well. The squash risotto was a mediocre small portion with the squash rind left on. The salad we had was good and the lemon chicken soup (broth) was just ok. We asked for bread and received a warm mini loaf (yay!) but was surprised to see the $11 charge for it on the bill.
We had been to Purple about a year ago. It was excellent. We sat outside and had delicious food and great service. This time, we were squeezed into a two person table at the window. Our server was fine, but it took a very long time to get our drinks. It appeared that there was only one bartender, and it was a super busy Saturday night. The food was just okay. For the price, I would expect superb, and compared to last time, it was definitely a let down. My partner's porkchop was just so-so. My chicken marsala was good....way too much chicken, and the grilled brussels sprouts were not trimmed of their woody part, and also hiding underneath the potatoes, so were soggy. If we return, we will try during the better weather to sit outside, and not on a busy Saturday night.
Everything was excellent. The service was wonderful and our food was delicious. The wine list was extensive and we found the perfect bottle for our date night. I highly recommend the Crème Brûlée for dessert.
It's a really nice restaurant in walking distance to The Somm Hotel, which is where we stayed...literally across the parking lot but not necessarily accessible via the parking lot since there is a retaining wall. The food was pretty good and the waiter/bartender was friendly. I visited with my husband and young daughter a few hours before closing, and it was only us and 2 other tables that were seated. It was very quiet and the ambiance was great. I recommend for a date night or catching up for drinks with someone you enjoy conversation with. I had the chicken soup and chicken cranberry salad. I really enjoyed the soup on a chilly fall night but the salad was mostly forgettable. They do have a kids menu, which is great. My daughter enjoyed the 3-cheese pasta.
This was a revisit from when we lived in Redmond (Scottsdale now) and shared the baked Brie, one of our favorites. The it was just ok. The portion size was far smaller, ratio of filo to Brie was way over on filo, only flat crackers with salt and sugar versus a carb basket with variety. It ate very dry.
Food was delicious. We had a great evening with our friends. Just a bit too noisy, but that is the only complaint for the evening.
This is my second time visiting Purple in the last month or two and it's a great establishment. The servers and service was top notch and food did not take long to come out. Extra kudos to McKenzie (spelling might be wrong, apologies) who we loved as our server on a past visit as well as seeing her this latest visit. She deserves all the praise, and everyone else who served us was awesome.
Quite busy this Friday night, glad we had reservations! Service was a bit slow; waiters spread across too many tables, I suspect.
I requested something special for my partner and her aunt, and the staff there delivered! The service was outstanding, and they were also treated to a special dessert. Can't wait to visit Purple Cafe again!

We had the mushroom pappardelle, which was excellent. The steak, however, was a bit too salty for our taste. Service started off well, but our server never checked back, and we had to flag someone else down to order dessert and get the check.
The music in the restaurant was too loud. It really needs to be in the background. The food is great. The citrus zest on the green olives was a very nice touch! It was very very nice that a birthday candle was added to the birthday dessert. We didn't even ask for it. Daniel was very attentive and friendly even though he was very busy! We'll be backl
The food was on balance ok. Truffle fries were good, the arugula salad was very good. Although the pasta was nice, the rest of the short rib pappardelle was weirdly heavy without much flavor. Both my husband and I felt mildly ill that night and we blame this dish. The cheesecake was good. This was a not overly crowded but busy Saturday night experience in an attractive space. The noise level was too much for a normal conversation, but probably fine for a large, raucous group. Our salad and pasta dish were brought out at the same time. I find this both more and more common and yet increasingly disappointing when dining out.
Delicious food but extremely slow and unenthusiastic service.
