The overall experience was fantastic! From the time we arrived and enjoyed leisurely cocktails at the bar with superb bartenders, to our scrumptious celebratory dessert! Food was outstanding as well.
I have been going for years and my fav is the cowboy. I was looking forward to it once again. It was not available. I hope it returns to the menu.
We have been here many times over the past few years and typically it has been a positive experience. Unfortunately, this time they fell short of expectations. As always, the atmosphere was wonderful and the music plays soft enough that having a conversation with those you are dining with is easy Sadly, our waitress seemed to do the bare minimum and offered no personality whatsoever. Maybe she was having an off night. When we spend $75 -$100 per plate we expect the service to be above average. In past experiences our food was always quite good. This time there were two orders of filet and two orders of mushroom ravioli. Both steaks were overcooked around the edges to the point that it made that part of the steak tough to eat. This inside portion of the steak was cooked a little more than ordered and while not having a great flavor, it was adequate. The potatoes were server lukewarm and the presence of garlic was barely noticeable. Again, when paying this amount in Beloit for a meal our expectation is that the service and quality should be above mediocre.
Great food and Service! The works Ribeye was Amazing along with the Garlic mashed potatoes and corn chowder. The Wife's Filet and augratin potatoes were good too!
Can't wait to go back. The experience here was outstanding. The service, food and ambiance were definitely 5star.
The reason I rated the food a lower score is because we all went there for NYE dinner. I previously checked their website and looked at the menu selection and we all knew what we wanted. The restaurant called days before to confirm our reservation etc. Well the day of, we all get there for reservation. Everything is going great. Then we're seated and provided menus. The menus we were provided had items that we did not see on the online menu and the prices on the menus we were provided included prices that was double the amount. They kicked the prices up a huge amount. There was no mention of this on their website or by the person who confirmed our reservation etc Had we all originally known this, we probably and most likely would have ate some place else. We had a family emergency so we had to leave. Well, they originally labeled the event as “cancelled” on OpenTable, as if we didn't show up. Thankfully OpenTable corrected that for me. I think if there is going to be uptick in prices as hefty as there was for NYE dinner, this establishment should post it on their website to reflect that. Don't wait and give the customer a special menu with prices double the amount.
Everyone's food was great except for the halibut. Two people in our party order it and it was overcooked. It was returned and a new one was sent out, that too was overcooked. Our server was awesome and took them off our bill.
Hands down, the best steak house in Beloit. Wonderful cocktails, attentive service and a beautiful atmosphere to enjoy dinner with my husband. We always choose Merrill and Houston's for a great dinner.
The steaks are awesome. Cooked perfectly. Coconut shrimp and the Parmesan peppercorn dressing are recommended.
This was an excellent dining experience, everything was very tasty. I had the Surf & Turf and my wife had the Seafood Alfredo. Both were very good! This the third year in a row we have celebrated my birthday there.

My steak was very good but the scallop potatoes for both my wife and I were cold. The server did comp a to go free dessert which was nice. I'm a little puzzle with the service very nice man but would disappeared at time maybe waiting on too many tables. It's a one and done for us but in all fairness I'm not saying you shouldn't go there
We eat at Merrill's all the time and last night my steak came raw, no flavor at all. I also had the worst potatoes I've ever had there. Not a good experience but the first bad experience we have ever had. They did take some money off of our bill.
Very nice. 2 time i have been. The first time was amazing the serves and ambience was Wonderful. Went back the for a second time and it was not as nice as the first time. We sat on the patio and it was not a nice as i was hoping. Went for a romance date night not so romance .
I can't comment on the food. I eaten there before it it's been good. Went there for my birthday and was herded into the far back room, which was packed and loud! I asked if we could sit somewhere else (within the half full main dining area). No. I stated I literally couldn't hear anything over the top of the other people in the room and asked again. Again the answer was no (within the half full main dining area). We got up and left. Went to Luckys #7 burger and had a wonderful burger, loaded fries, and cheese curds!! 5 stars for Lynch's #7. I may or may not go back to Merrill's. They didn't really care too much about our level of comfort.
My husband and I both ordered ribeyes medium rare. His was medium well with a very slighthint of pink. Mine was well done brown throughout and very dry. After waiting more than a half hour to be served with our food, I did not have the time or energy to send it back. Our waitress was great and that wasn't her fault. Atmosphere was too loud for us to enjoy conversation. The lobster bisque and "the works" steak topping was too salty to enjoy.
