Went in hoping for a good "old fashioned donut" and was disappointed. The staff was fast and kind, the place looked very well kept and interesting and there was a nice variety. Ordered a cheese danish and apple-filled tart/strudel. The "cheese" in the danish, oh dear lord, how can you mess this up? It's just supposed to be sweetened cream cheese. This was some sour milky white mess VOID of dairy. The apple filling in the strudel was some kind of pre-packaged paste and again the dough tasted soapy. Perhaps we can blame the cost of flour being $5 a bag for cheap substitutes for old fashioned donuts. Shame, really wanted to like this place as the people seemed great.

As much as I hate having to go into Woodman's on Milwaukee Street in Madison, Wisconsin, I decided to go one day to get a few items. I saw Old Fashioned Bakery French bread in the mix of all the other bakeries that Woodman's has on the shelves. I grabbed it because the crust looked crunchy, and the loaf had some heft to it!With the miserable weather, we decided to do a road trip to Beloit to specifically check out this bakery. A fantastic waitstaff, incredible selection of bakery items. It was ? delicious and well worth the trip!Parking: No issues whatsoever.

I recently worked there for 2 days. I worked in the back. Prepping with others. Seen too many products prior/after being baked/fried, get dropped on the floor, then added back to baking sheets, pans to sell.One of the "droppers" also warned me of an owner and their excessive talking. Lol.This owner talked to me my first day about shower-bleach treatments for my child. Weird conversation.I left on my second day at 7am on my break. I walked off. I could not be a part of something like that. Now they know why. I do not have anything bad to say about anyone personally. I am speaking on what I saw with my short experience. My family is new to Beloit and we enjoyed eating from this bakery. We are no longer customers either. Again, no hard feelings. Just my experience.*They care so much for their employees and customers that their response came almost 5 months later. No comments on the bleach treatments though.?♀️?♀️

Great bakery! Everything is good, eclairs, cookies, turnovers, nut bread, and all of their other bread selections. Have been eating their potato rolls since I was a kid. Counter help is always pleasant and helpful.

I used to think their doughnuts were good but I have come to realize over the years that all the fried products there have the same oxidized oil taste. The people who work there are sometimes rude and seem bothered to be serving you. I especially felt this way one time I really needed to urinate. I told them it was urgent and they wouldn't let me use a bathroom. I certainly broke some speed limits and almost peed my pants on the way home. That left me with a bad enough feeling about the place that I never go there anymore. I know some REAL good bakeries in the Chicago area and this place could NEVER hold a candle to any of them. Now I just get my bakery goods when I travel into Chicago and freeze whatever I need to. Unfortunately, expectations are a lot lower out here. This store would never survive with real competition. Thanks and good luck if you have to pee when you're in there!
