While I definitely enjoy Zen and think they are quite delicious, typically very timely. Today in a snow storm, my pick up order was 40 minutes delayed and the delay was at no point communicated to me. There was no place to wait and so after about 15 minutes of standing, my 30 week pregnant self just helped myself to a chair at a table. I could tell the hosts were running, but the lack of communication was very disappointing.

I have heard good things about your restaurant so I placed a take out order on Christmas Eve. When we got the food home I discovered the pan fried veggie dumplings I ordered were not pan fried but steamed and were pork. I don’t eat meat. I was very disappointed. We had crab Rangoon which was possibly artificial crab? And veggie fried rice which was rice and frozen mixed vegetables? Very disappointing.

Beloit’s finest for your Japanese-Korean sushi, sashimi, bulgogi and more. Careful prep of both raw fish, cooked, and vegetable rolls. Plenty of soy sauce, ginger, and of course horseradish. [*young men might want to go light on the soy, just sayin’]

Tall lady at the front desk was extremely rude to both us and another customer in line, as well as fighting with another employee, making everyone feel uncomfortable. Food was good as always but atmosphere was hostile. Food took 20 minutes longer than they said it would.

I have been going to Zen since 2016/17 and have never once had a meal I wasn’t happy with. The servers are always so nice as well. I would recommend booking ahead, as everything I have said is no secret and it’s often quite busy. Oh yeah, and their lunch special is nearly impossible to beat. No photos as I was too excited to eat!

This was the worst $50 we have spent on a meal. Miso soup was filled to the line of my thumb on this container. Bento box had soggy, weird chicken with a strange sauce. The salad, which was finished in 5 bites, had very little flavor. We had been wanting to try this place for year and had heard great things. Won’t be going back again, huge waste of money.

Great sushi in downtown Beloit, Wisconsin ? You bet. Just a wonderful experience tonight. Started with an interesting take on a Tuna Tataki app and a nice G Joy sake from a very decent sake and wine offering … he offered up a custom preparation that was artistic and meaty as well. This was followed by the best inland Chef’s choice sashimi platter I’ve ever had. Great mix of fish, exceptionally well presented. Sat at the sushi bar and had the pleasure of conversing with is Japan trained chef who really seemed to enjoy his gig in Beloit. Check this place out, you will not be disappointed !

Good food and friendly service. Reasonably priced lunch specials. Generally a nice sushi place.
Very disappointing. The Miso soup was bland and flavorless. I got the I Love Sushi. The rice was dry, almost like it was day-old. Some of the fish did not taste fresh. I was honestly worried that I'd get sick. Gave two stars because the servers were friendly and atmosphere is nice.
Make this place a staple in your dining rotation. It's a can't miss.

I was disappointed with my order. The hostess seemed upset and not very social, perhaps she was having a bad day, understandable! My primary issue was with the food. The crab rangoons were overpriced for the small portion, and they didn’t contain any cream cheese. I’ve never experienced crab rangoons that were that small and made without cream cheese and just straight imitation crab. One of my sushi rolls was a bit messily made and hard to eat due to the pieces being so large, and some of the salmon was very dark, so I was concerned. It ended up being fine to eat. I will not order from here again, which is too bad as I got a sushi boat here once years ago and it was awesome!

Technically, my rating would be 4.6 if Google did math on each individual review score, but that would only complicate things. My Review Zen does sushi and what it means very well. Please note that I have had sushi and much more during many business trips to Japan. My standards are high, and not surprisingly, at home, I am often disappointed. I am neither foodie nor food snob. This is just me being lucky to have had the best. Freshness is the foundation. Zen is some of the best I've had in the US, including a couple of small strip mall family restaurants that cater to those who know just by remaining true to the ways of their heritage. Zens chefs are meticulous about presentation, which is a nice barometer of quailty as there is pride in their work. And while Zen does nothing unique for a competitor in this market, they are successful because what they do they do very well. The atmosphere is contemporary, and the service is much better than average. They have outdoor seating. We'll be back again. Highly recommend!
