Server was friendly but inattentive. One of our entrees was outstanding and the other barely mediocre. Ambiance was nice, but food was overpriced. Not likely to return, but for the walleye.
My wife and I had our first visit to 1878 On The Lake last Saturday night and were completely disappointed with the service. Cannot comment on the food, except for the French onion soup, because we never got our dinners after waiting till 8:20. We ordered a one half ribs and the tuna appetizer. We arrived at about 6:55 pm and sat for 20 minutes before the server took our drink orders. He then came to take our orders a few minutes later. Our soup arrived at 7:45. We ordered one soup but two were brought out. We asked why the wait and was told the kitchen was backed up. After seeing two other tables being seated about 25 minutes after us, a four person and a two person, receive their meals at about 7:45 we asked the server what was going on. Again said the kitchen was backed up. If it was backed up why were others receiving their food before us. At 8:00 pm the server brought a desert menu and said dessert was on the house due to the food not being brought to us yet. Again questioned why others why they received food before us but being seated well after us. Again the kitchen was backed up. We asked for the manager and he came to our table about 8:10. He immediately said our dinner was on the house and our food would be out right away. We waited till 8:25 with no food. Decided to leave and ended up eating at Culver's before a going to a party in the area. We live north of Milwaukee was our date night and was looking forward to eating at your restaurant after reading good reviews. Really wrecked the mood of our evening.
Party of 8 for a business dinner. Bartender made excellent drinks, especially the smoked bourbon old fashioned. Waiter Carter was attentive, polite, and didn't miss a thing. We ordered a variety of appetizers which were all very fun to try. Dinner was great... from the tomahawk pork, to the lobster, scallops and fish fry. The best dessert was the cream brûlée and chocolate flourless cake. I also appreciate the effort at maintaining safe foods for my allergy. I would happily return in the future. Thanks!!
Friendly service from beginning to end.

I went here for dinner on my birthday and it was even better than expected. We got an igloo and it was a really cool atmosphere. Our server was Kristine, and she was great! I got the walleye and it was delicious. The mud pie for dessert was amazing as well. I would highly recommend this place for a special occasion or any time you’re in the area!

This was an excellent experience. The food was phenomenal, and the service was top notch. I had the ribeye & my girlfriend had the chicken pesto. Both dishes were well worth the price.
My only issue is just how kid friendly this place is. When we were seated, we were adjacent to a large family gathering with loud children; however, the staff understood and were not judgemental when we asked to be moved.

Jasmine was our waitress & right away she made easy flowing conversations with the whole table & gave my daughter some tips on homework & being a big sister. She offered drinks and appetizers and entrees in appropriate timing. It was my mom’s birthday & she gave a great desert recommendation we were all happy with, she offered several recommendations and everything tasted amazing! Thank you for going above and beyond to connect with us & make it a simple yet wonderful experience!

Visited 1878 for dinner on New Years Day. We’ve been coming to Lake Lawn for years and have never been disappointed.
Kristine K was our server and she was kind, knowledgeable, and gave us great recommendations regarding drinks, apps, and entrees. The portions were generous and the drinks well prepared. Our corner table offered great views of the grounds and lakeshore and provided a beautiful backdrop for a wonderful meal. We will definitely be back again.

It has been 12 years since I have been here so l was excited to be back here but what a huge disappointment!! Ate here on new year's eve. We had a party of 6. The only dish that was good was the pasta. One of our guests lettuce in his wedge salad was yellow and had brown spots. The bacon in the salad was horrible. Tasted liked the precooked bacon. Our steaks were not cooked properly. The desserts were okay. For paying $145 per a person I was expecting top notch food and white glove service! Way overpriced!!! Service was slow. Our dinner took 2 1/2 hours! They took food outside to the igloo and did not have covers on them to keep their food warm.

We enjoyed the Christmas Day champagne brunch this year. Our first time at this beautiful lakefront resort. I guess Delavan Lake is a best kept secret, because as Chicagoans, we always hit Geneva Lake. Fantastic and warm service from Kristine at 1878. Very bustling dining room but we never had an empty glass or were left wanting anything. Two thumbs up for this gem.
