Saint Francis Hermitage Reviews
Always an amazing dining experience. The menu is so varied it is always difficult to choose. Delicious food and always a wonderful presentation. The Nuns are so delightful and helpful. Well worth the two hour drive to get there from Dubuque. A truly unique place. I’m a never leave without purchasing some of their fantastic breads. Absolutely love this place.

The Saint Francis Hermitage offers an exceptional French culinary experience. The restaurant serves meticulously prepared and presented dishes, including a unique French menu not found elsewhere in the upper Midwest. The service is excellent, with nuns providing attentive and helpful service, making guests feel at home. The ambiance is beautiful, with a church next door adding to the charm. The food, including dishes like lamb chops and spring soup, is delightful. Many ingredients, such as meat, are grown and raised on site and are certified organic. All proceeds from the restaurant go to feed the poor, adding a meaningful aspect to dining here.
The restaurant is run by primarily French nuns, and all the food is locally sourced, with most ingredients grown or raised on-site. Guests can expect to spend 1-2 hours for dinner, as the dishes are prepared with care. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, explore the grounds, visit the gift shop, and contemplate life in the on-site chapel, where they may find nuns or monks in prayer. While the restaurant is located in a remote area, it is well worth the visit for an unforgettable culinary experience and a peaceful retreat.
