I find myself going out of my way to stop in at Backwoods. It always has a great atmosphere with good people. They do a lot of their own smoked meats, which have been amazing. I recommend the house-smoked chicken wings. Sometimes I've been in and they've done smoked Cornish hens. The customer service is always good. The bartender or server always makes sure I'm doing well at the appropriate times.

We were searching for a good, family restaurant to eat at on our camping trip in Hayward at the K.O.A. We looked through all our options and took a chance with Backwoods Bar & Grill. We are so happy we did so. The food was rich and delicious. It didn't leave you feeling like other bar food, where your stomach is usually wrenching from grease, but instead satisfied our appetites and our taste buds. We decided to have dinner here a second time as the food and service were very good last time. This time it was Veteran's Day, November 11, 2023. One of us was a veteran and he wore his veteran hat. As a result he was given 3 free beers. The other 3 of us had to buy our drinks. I had the Smoked Brisket Street Tacos (a specialty here according to the menu).
