This review is for their wedding catering services, not the inn or cafe.
We used Farmhouse Kitchen to cater our wedding and unfortunately, working with them added a lot of stress to the wedding planning process. Their communication was extremely intermittent and I would often text or email multiple times without a response for days or even weeks at a time. I understand that summer is the busy season on the island, but this was a problem pretty much from the beginning of working with them about a year prior to our August 2025 wedding. At a point, I wasn’t sure if we were even going to have food for our wedding, because I couldn’t get a response or confirmation. This was a month or less out from the wedding, so it understandably really stressed me out not being able to get ahold of one of our major vendors.
In addition, the original costs we were given when we began planning to use Farmhouse for catering changed once it was time to pay the deposit. I understand that prices have gone up this year but as a small business owner myself, I would never change prices between booking and payment, especially for something as tightly budgeted as a wedding. They did adjust slightly to help offset the costs once I pointed out the price difference, but it was still more than I agreed to originally.
On a positive note, the food was good and our guests were happy, and they were very flexible in keeping things warm when we ran late on our wedding day timeline due to photos taking longer than we expected. Everything still tasted fresh when we sat down for dinner. The staff that were on site were very friendly, helpful and polite and did a great job. Zero complaints about the actual service on our wedding day.
They are nice people and they did fulfill their end of the contract, but I think management needs some work. Seems to be a common theme on Madeline island.
This place was so great. Perfect location, right off the ferry, and super quiet. I appreciated the outside seating so I could relax and read my book in the hammock or rocking chairs. The owner brought gift baskets every morning with snacks including his homemade muffins warm from the oven. What a treat! I came here to relax my weary soul and that was accomplished. Good wifi, immediate hot water in the sink and shower, and a fridge. We liked being able to walk to the restaurants nearby. Amazing pizza at the Inn down by the yacht club.
We loved it here and the fresh muffins and cute basket given every morning. Thank you.
We ate at the cafe. Wonderful food and service. Low carb friendly. What an amazing egg bake and salad. Couldn't have been better.
Disgusted- swarms of flies inside the restaraunt. Paid 16$ for 1 sad tamale with no sauce and a little pile of lettuce with. My husband and I decided to share and were relieved to leave quickly and go somewhere else.
We like to support local businesses but felt very uncomfortable in their establishment. The cashier laughed after I asked who the owners were, she was clearly uncomfortable becauee she knew why I was asking.
Happy to know:
The owners are not locals and these attitudes are not reflected on the rest of the island.
Great place to stay. Our room was a nice size and really cute. Perfect place to wind down after checking out the island. Cafe had good coffee and delicious limited breakfast menu. Pastries were delivered in a basket outside the room in the morning and they were also excellent.
I loved the simplicity and the thoughtful touches. Will definitely be back!
Great night sleep, very peaceful!!

Delightful little spot to stay on the island. We caught them on the last day of the season, so not sure if anything was different than usual. A bit rustic, but clean. Enough outlets for charging. Queen sized bed that was pretty firm and a little muffin basket left outside in the AM. Check-in was electronic, and once we took the time to read, seamless!

This place is cute, clean, comfortable, and super convenient. They’ve obviously redone/updated some things like fixtures and floors. It’s rustic but in a cool, modern way, not a creepy, old way. It’s also steps away from the ferry. From the connected patios, sweetly appointed with pairs of rocking chairs, there’s a beautiful lake view. Little touches like local soap and the morning pastry basket just put this place over the top. Love!

Although the appearance looks a little old, the house is relatively clean. There is a very considerate breakfast, which is very close to the dock.

I stayed here for 2 nights in July. Great location across from the ferry. Room was great. Nice bed, mini-fridge and microwave. A tray with tea, coffee and cups. You use a code to unlock your room. On the morning of my last day, I received a little basket of goodies with a very tasty berry scone, snacks and fruit. FYI. The negative reviews were for the brunch spot the owners used to operate, which is no longer in the building next door. I wouldn't pay any attention to those reviews. I liked my time at Farmhouse.

The farmhouse inn is no longer in busniess. Don't try to go here for breakfast.
Very clean and comfortable, but bring your own shampoo! Also your own instant coffee, unless you know how to operate the old fashioned coffee makers! I was lucky, I brought both! We drove off the ferry and it was right there, so super close, and you can walk everywhere. They got lots of cute shops and places to eat! It's right next to a museum. It's a short drive to big bay town park if you want to canoe or kayak. It's on the honor system, so put money in and go. So it's a nice place to stay, not much of a view, but quiet and close to everything, and they deliver a basket of pastries in the morning!

We booked this room for family that was coming but found out they had Covid on day they were to arrive so didn’t even use it. I knew I could not get a refund but asked if we could get a partial refund if not even for cleaning fee. Nope! Would not accommodate and owners said they were sticking to cancellation rule. This room is NOT nice in person either. I wasn’t asking for full refund - as a whole Madeline Island has gone downhill with everything for sale. It’s lost it’s vibe in my opinion and have been going for years.
