“I’m glad we decided to stop by on our way out of town! We had a great experience. Great coffee and food. It’s clear the staff are close knit. It was just so wholesome and heartwarming to overhear them connect with their community of people coming and going. My impression was this was a coffee shop with heart. I will definitely be back and recommend to friends and family.“

“My mom and I stopped in at Nanette's Kitchen a couple years ago because we had never been. We were greeted by Nanette's husband who proudly talked about his wife's talents and love for baking. Upon hearing that I was suffering from long covid that greatly affected my sense of taste and smell (distorted the taste and smell of everything to be so bad it was practically inedible), he offered me a taste of a small pastry-free of charge because I didn't know if I would be able to eat it, and he wanted to try to give me something that could be a tasty, sweet treat for me. The pastry went over very well after we left with it, and it was an exciting time for me because so many eating experiences at the time ended with me having to spit things out because I couldn't stand the taste. Beyond the yummy pastry, I was taken by the unbelievable kindness he showed me and my mom in both his conversation and his generosity. In a time where I definitely needed some human kindness, he was more than happy to oblige.
Fast forward a couple yard to this past Labor Day weekend. My partner and I wanted to celebrate Shabbat with my family when we went up north for the weekend. We live near Milwaukee, so we hit up a grocery store in a heavily populated Jewish neighborhood hoping to get some kosher food and challah bread. While we were successful with the food, we were unsuccessful with the bread, which was disappointing. On our drive up north, I remembered Nanette's and looked at her website to see if she made challah bread. (My partner was pretty convinced we wouldn't be able to find challah bread on a Thursday night on our way to the Northwoods.) Lo and behold, there it was listed on her website, but I didn't know if there would be any made and available for the next day. I emailed Nanette, not expecting a response til the morning because her shop had already closed. I heard back from her in less than an hour. She had some challah and she would set some aside for us to pick up the following morning. When we arrived to her bakery the next morning, our challah was out and waiting for us. Nanette was an absolute delight. She radiates kindness. You can tell she love what she does, and she's so unbelievably talented as a baker. She managed to convince us to also buy a fresh, out of the oven kouign amann (a French pastry-I'm pretty sure that's what it was called). [Note: The convincing tool zero effort from her part as we took one look at this delicious pastry and immediately agreed that we needed one.] It was sweet, buttery soft with the slightest amount of crunch. We were going to take a picture of the whole thing, but such a picture doesn't exist because we started eating it right away and then quite literally couldn't stop until it was gone.
I highly recommend Nanette's Kitchen to anyone looking for a unique, incredible bakery to maybe try some pastries and treats you don't see in your run of the mill bakeries. The environment is welcoming and full of love. It really embodies the spirit and attitude of the best kindness you'll find in the Northwoods. Nanette has a customer for life from me.

“An old fashioned diner with simple dishes at a fair price. Can’t say anything bad about the place. Waitresses were very friendly, answered questions with ease and checked back enough to make sure we had everything.
Seemed like lots of regulars and the staff was excited to see everyone and made them feel like family.
Food was good, homestyle and was prepared exactly as requested.
Coffee comes in a pitcher for the table so you never have to wait. A nice addition to the Northwoods town.“

“Usually we try to avoid the tourist areas, we stopped here for breakfast on Sunday morning. We’ve driven past for years but decided to stop. Very nice diner style restaurant with a clean well lit interior. Friendly staff greeted us quickly with some waters. Large portions at a great value. The Greek omelette was fantastic, I recommend the humus, it has an amazing flavor. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️“
