Outstanding lunch with Emin, the owner of Caspian Grill. Borscht and Pelmeni for lunch. All house made! Wonderful service and a chance to have great conversation and food. The Honey Cake has just a touch of sweet and it a great way to end a meal. We will be back for the kabobs.

The fresh, amazingly delicious food at Caspian Grill is something my husband and I crave on a very regular basis - particularly the Caspian Salad, the chicken thigh kababs, the beef pelmini, and the potato vareniki. Seriously. We love this place!!

And the service?! I can’t say enough! I have never seen a more hard-working restaurant owner in my life - the pride, joy, and attention to detail by Emin, you feel so special…like one of their family. Madison is so lucky to have such a place run by gloriously lovely people sharing their craft with the community.

Highly recommended without a second’s hesitation!! Can’t wait for our next order!

3 Years Later and I’m Still Trying to Get the Taste Out of My Mouth”

If you’ve ever wondered what disappointment on a plate tastes like, this is the place to find out. I visited this restaurant three years ago, and I’m STILL haunted by the memory. Not only was the food bad, it was as if they seasoned it with regret and cooked it over the flames of my shattered expectations.

And the owner? Oh, the owner. If rudeness were an Olympic sport, this guy would be standing on the podium with a gold medal, yelling at the silver medalist for existing. When I politely mentioned the food wasn’t great and smaller quantity, he stared at me as if I’d personally insulted his ancestors, and asked me to order more if its not enough. then walked away. I half expected him to throw the bill at me like a frisbee on his way out.

Three years later, my taste buds have almost recovered, but the emotional scars remain. If you’re looking for a memorable dining experience, this place will definitely leave an impression—just not the one you’re hoping for.

Traveling to Madison we stopped for Russian food and wonderful conversation with the owner. Being from Russia this experience was wonderful. We had a large variety from menu and took delicious pancakes stuff with meat (nalisnaka) , and baclava home. Some kwas was a refreshing change from soda.
We very much enjoyed today and plan to return next trip?????

Pelmeni was ok but the portion size seemed small. I prefer the taste of Paul’s Pelmeni downtown where you can more than twice as much food for the same price. For $8.99 plus 20% tip the total was $11.28 for what I thought would be a meal but was actually a small appetizer. Service was good and they seemed friendly.

Friendly and welcoming place with decent portions. The lamb kofta was hot off the grill and really tasted like lamb which was quite welcome given some restaurants here can be afraid of the natural flavors of the meat. Salad was fresh and full of flavors, greens, herbs, pickles etc. A great experience overall and I can tell the owners have a passion for sharing the cuisine of Azerbaijan and the neighboring countries of the Caspian!

UNDERRATED. Could not for the life of me understand why so few people were in there on a Saturday night. Fresh, delicious Middle Eastern/Azerbaijani food in a cozy casual atmosphere. I would love to see more people in here the next time I go.

Some anecdotes and thoughts:
- It was our first time! Instead of ordering right away at the counter we were guided to spend some time with the menu at a table. We tend to take a long time with this kind of thing, so she eventually came by to check on us and ended up taking our order from there! Gave us table service at what I believe is normally a counter restaurant. Definitely went the extra mile to make sure we were having a good experience :’)
- the FOOOOOOD. Normally, when a restaurant isn’t doing so hot, you can kind of tell in the atmosphere and food quality that they may be cutting some corners. I was doubting that belief because there was nothing of the sort happening here!! The salad’s greens were vibrant and fresh, the rice was perfectly cooked and fluffy, the meat was deliciously grilled, and the vibes were cozy and cool. I would eat that lamb kofta every day for the rest of my life if I could afford to. (Speaking of, the prices are ridiculously reasonable for the portions and quality they offer)
- baklava….. I’m still dreaming about it

TL;DR: Caspian Grill is a cool place run by kind folks that serve high-quality Azerbaijani meals, and it’s a damn shame that it wasn’t bumping when I went.

I feel like I got competly ripped off I will never waste my money here again I feel scammed and another thing there "pita bread" was just flour tortillas for tacos from woodmans!! There's nothing authentic or worthwhile about this experience.
