This place was amazing. We were a little weary at first but the food was great and the staff was amazing! Our server was Jenny and she was the sweetest. The service was speedy but very great. I’ll definitely have to return next time I’m in Madison.

1st time here: Place was pact: menu prices are surprisingly reasonable! (See pic for the menu) And I like they have real half & half creamers & honey. I have a walleye fish w/ hash-brown, 2 eggs & raisin toasts. Good place for breakfast!

I hate to even have to do this to a local restaurant that has been in Madison for so long and that I have gone to for many years now, but I can’t shake the feeling that I had after leaving there today after being treated so poorly by the waitress. We seated ourselves as we were told to do, and from the get-go, the waitress was abrupt and impatient with us. Never in my whole life have I ever gotten my check TWO bites into a meal, tried to wave down the waitress 2 to 3 times to get it to go box for my friend. I was met with rolled eyes and being blatantly ignored while watching everyone else around us, which wasn’t that many people, be served and not a single one of those people received a check That early into their meal. I watched her give this table of guys their check AFTER they ate and the table had been cleared off. And you guessed it, I was the only POC in the entire section. I had been hearing this type of thing happening to other POC recently at this place but still went because I love their breakfast. I’ve been a server/bartender for 7 years and have never treated anyone this way and I still left a tip even though I felt beyond uncomfortable scarfing down my meal just to get out of there quicker. Sadly I won’t be recommending this place anymore or be going back myself.

Cottage Cafe is fast, friendly, and affordable. I can't believe how fast my food arrived and when I got the bill I couldn't believe how fair the price was, I left a tip as big as the bill. More than likely I'll be eating daily here.

After finishing the white toast I initially ordered, I requested an additional slice. However, I was brought sourdough instead of white, and two slices instead of one. The expression on the waitress’s face made me feel as though she believed the mistake was mine. When I clarified that I had only wanted one slice, she explained that they always serve two and that it's the same price. Essentially, the cost is two dollars for toast, regardless of whether you want one slice or two.

Food is, good enough, but disappointing compared to most of the other diners I've been to, mostly in Madison… pumpkin waffle lacked much pumpkin flavor but the warm spices came through well,
Service was fair, it was busy so it took them a few minutes to circle back

I asked if the waffle was crispy at all, it was not. Though I was told otherwise :/
