I usually enjoy the food I have had at Hong Kong Cafe. This time my chicken had gristle. The person that checked me out asked how things were and I told him. He did not provide me with an apology and suggested I contact their distributer (really!). I'm also not a fan of automatically adding in gratuity.
Stopped to get the Char Su. Showed him on my phone exactly what I wanted as I had saved it to place my order. He came out and set a bag on the counter and walked back into the kitchen without saying anything to me. I couldn't even ask for some hot mustard on the side. I get home and I get a small container of meat. No noodles. No rice. Nothing. Just meat and sauce all over the inside of the bag. I paid $13 for just meat ?? So disappointing. Will never return.
Words can’t express my extreme frustration and anger with this restaurant. Arrived at 11:50, placed order for 4 entrees, paid in cash, there was no food came to our table at all. I started questioning them at 12:20 why there wasn’t any food, and the guy finally gave me two of them, while the other two entrees were still no show at 12:45. My family all hungry and angry at this point, I asked for a refund for the other two items, the guy initially was very reluctant to give me my money back and still told me they were working on it. The only orders they were working on were the to-go, that was it!!! Finally I got the money back and ate McDonald’s. Your time is worth more than waiting for them, what they should have done at the first place was not to take so many orders and remind people there is a long wait, like any other restaurant would have done. What a joke and I would never be back. Ever.
Not an apology for the whole experience by the way, they didn’t care.
Picture of all the customers and to-go orders waiting for their foods.
They prioritize online orders first. You need to wait a long time if you dine in.
Definitely authentic Chinese food. You order the food at the register and pick it up from the window when it’s ready.
First and last time here. Very rude, overpriced and average food. Dirty tables. Better places than this hole in the wall. also stole extra money for my meal as my credit card showed additonal charge than agreed upon. Bad way to run a business.
I ordered Spicy Mala Noodle Soup for pick up. They missed one of the ingredients I added (and paid extra for). Very disappointed. The food tasted good though.
I would say their food is definitely nice, a little bit pricy, but definitely delicious. It is probably one of the best (or even, the best) Chinese restaurant you can find in Madison. The Taiwan Beef Noodle and their meat platters, or meat over rice, is amazing. I haven't try other menu yet, but they offer a variety of selection. But, as other said, there is some issue with this place as well, in their service is pretty bad, and their attitude can be intimidating sometime (well, they don't ask for tip, maybe that's why), and food can be slow, and hygenine is not great. Still, food is good, and I would rate them 4/5 overall.
Delicious authentic Hong Kong food.
No service but they don’t require you tip either which I am ok with it. Buss your own table and pick up after yourself.
Seems pretty busy with Chinese college kids dine in there a lot when I was there. Not the typical Americanized Asian restaurant, you have to know what you’re ordering!
there are lots of fly ?,very bad attitude and inner environment. Never come back again, unless you want to get diarrhea

[Lightning Protection] The service attitude is extremely poor. When I called to order, I was told that I would have to wait for thirty minutes. It didn't work out after I arrived, so I asked if it could be done in ten minutes, but the boss urged me to pay: "You don't want to pay if you like, saying so much will affect my money!"
[AVOOILD THIS PLACE!!!] The service attitude was extremely poor. I called to place an order and was told I had to wait 30 minutes. When I arrived after 30 min, it wasn't ready, so I asked if they could finish it in 10 minutes. The boss pushed me to pay first, saying, "Pay or don't, saying so much is affecting my business!" Will you still choose this restaurant? Think for it!

Delicious and authentic! The wonton noodles are comparable to what we had in Guangzhou, so impressed! The Thai spicy pig ears are spicy and refreshing, and the portion is generous. The sago is also delicious.

The fried rice noodles fried with dishwashing ball crumb, so disgusting after I have almost finished eating them. The sanitation is also poor.
