Came here after researching the "best coffee in Madison." I only got their pour over, so that's all I can speak for. It was cheap as well as delicious. Actual good coffee places can be hard to come by, and this is definitely one of them. I loved the atmosphere as well as the wooden interior. I'm definitely coming back next time I'm in Madison.

Visited Johnson Public House for the first time on a Saturday morning (around 10 am). The venue was really cozy and warm. Had heard good reviews about their coffee and had to check it out myself! My party of 2 ordered iced oat milk lattes and they came out to around $5 each which I thought was reasonably priced. The coffee was really good - the espresso / beans used were strong & had great flavor. Also tried their a couple of their breakfast options - a breakfast ham sandwich & granola yogurt bowl. They each ran around $10 which I thought was also reasonable for the price! The granola & yogurt bowl was really good and served with macerated strawberries. The ham sandwich was really tasty as well. We were lucky to grab a free table when we walked in and it was a nice atmosphere to work in / socialize. The staff were friendly and overall the experience was great. Would recommend!

Excellent coffee and a nice place to get some work in. I have to say also that their food is incredible. I got the roast beef breakfast sandwich and it was one of the best I've ever had. Truly unique and perfectly balanced. Threw a side of potatoes in there to round it out and I was a happy boy. Everyone here was friendly and they played cool music to set the vibe. Will definitely come back here!

This place deserves its high rating! My favorite coffee drink is an unusual custom request, and it was executed perfectly and without question by the barista. The Sunday breakfast sandwich is eye opening - humble ingredients, elevated with perfect execution to bring out a dimensionality of flavor I didn't consider possible. Even the drip coffee is divine!

It's nice that it's always there and open when I need it but overall not good. The place stinks so nasty like burnt griddle. I don't know if there's any ventilation in there at all and even if I go in for less than 10 minutes my hair stinks for hours after. It triggers my asthma as well and I usually can't breathe deeply when I go inside. I have no idea how people actually sit down and do work there. The espresso itself is not good compared to other mom and pop coffee shops in Madison. It's extremely sour/chemically/burnt tasting which sucks because my go to is an americano (which is 4$ for a 12oz). I'm not sure if they just order bad espresso or if it's a user error on the barista but always tastes like that. I honestly know it's bad but I still go there frequently because it's so close to my house. The people are amazing and kind. If you're not an espresso drinker and you don't have asthma or sensitive nose definitely try it out.

It smells like feet and grease inside and your clothes will smell like it when you leave, great coffee though.

I really love JPH. I really don’t love smelling like JPH for the rest of the day. Fair warning, you will smell like a grease trap when you leave. But the coffee and food is good.

A quick visit for coffee, lauded by the locals!I had a breakfast sandwich, which was probably one of the best if not the best I’ve ever had in a ‘coffee cafe’. Highly recommended.I also had a simple double express, dark, with a bit of fruit, and slightly sour. A perfect brew for a milk drink I think. But good enough to be ordered by itself.

One of the best chai lattes I've ever had. (Bonus: Also adorably served in a mason jar.)

If you're looking for filter coffee, this is the best place to go in Madison. I always order the single-origin V60 pour overs -- they're way more consistent than I am at home.
