Service was prompt and polite, and the food was great. The menu features Tex Mex and regional cuisine, with a focus on complex seafood offerings. I think this is the kind of restaurant one underestimates at first glance... The menu may look a little less than luxe, but the kitchen delivers! I'll definitely be back.

I often commute between boscobel and Milwaukee and this place is conveniently located for me. I find the chiles rellenos consistent and perfect every time. The sauce tastes clean and fresh. I'm so impressed that I order it every time. The rice is always nicely done and beans are delicious. White corn tortillas are served warm and delicious. The service is always fast and friendly and I love the hand carved and painted decor. I am a big fan of lengua tacos so I must try theirs next time... Last week I tried a different place west of Madison and was sorely disappointed. I hope this place stays on forever!

Ordered burrito suizo, didn't think it was great. Overall taste and ingredients quality was meh. Cheese on top tasted like cheap nacho cheese at gas stations. Came with two tiny slices of avocado that were actually rotten.... Won't be ordering

Sat immediately, smelled delicious soon as you open the restaurant door. We knew what we wanted pretty much off the bat, both ordered the two chimichanga meal (one steak, one pork, both sensational). The food came, quite literally, within 7 minutes. I wish Milwaukee could do this!

I probably had one of the best shrimp cocktails I've had in a long time. Great service and bright interior. Easy parking and great food.

Had the molcajete, it had chicken, beef, pork and it tasted awful, everything had the same taste, tortillas were warmed in tin foil not on a griddle and unfriendly staff.

We absolutely loved the food at Taqueria El Jalapeño. My boyfriend got Tilapia Frita & I got the lunch Gordita special with Al Pastor! Both were at our table within 5 minutes! We literally just stumbled upon this place when visiting Madison and we spent an hour in the parking lot searching for our lunch before we went inside. It was perfect, the prices were perfect and the food was top notch! :) I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a great authentic Mexican meal!

Great family-owned restaurant that serves authentic Mexican food for a great price. We went here on a whim because they were one of the few sit-down restaurants that serve food after 9pm. We were able to be seated immediately and served promptly. The booths are HUGE and very comfortably fit 3-4 adults on each side. Each table/booth is unique with beautiful designs and bright colors (see photos). They have a smaller menu but they do great with all the dishes offered. This menu specifically has the most traditional/authentic Mexican dishes of any of the restaurants in the area.Their chips and salsa are delicious. You are served a mild red salsa with a bottle of spicy salsa to add if you so choose. We ordered the Chicken Enchilada dinner and 3 tacos al a carte (pescado, camarón and al pastor) with a side of rice and beans. The food was satiating and satisfying. My partner specifically could not stop raving about the al pastor taco. They said it was the best they've had and would get that next time we come.If you want to save some money, bring cash because they charge a $1 fee for using credit/debit cards. There are not many options for vegtarians on the menu so I would not recommend this restaurant if you require those dietary needs. There is plenty of parking in the free parking lot outside the restaurant. They also have a great take-out system.

The best Mexican place in Madison, hands down. Absolutely savory tacos, the carne asada melts in your mouth, and service is fast and courteous. If you do carbs, the gorditas and sopes are to die for.
