Food is okay, nothing too memorable. A little pricey for what you get. Limited menu. Good coffee. I love their mission supporting anti-human trafficking efforts.

This was my third or fourth visit to Mercies, and I doubt that I would come back. I intended to work on my laptop, but the only spaces near an outlet require you to sit on very small and uncomfortable stools, so I did not stay as long as I would have liked. I ordered an almond croissant, which was stale. It took over ten minutes to receive my latte, despite them not being busy.

I stumbled upon Mercies Coffee one morning on Madison’s east side, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite spots in the city. The moment I walked in, I felt at ease—the space is warm and inviting, with cozy seating, thoughtful decor (including a lovely brick fireplace), and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to linger with a book or catch up with a friend. The staff were genuinely kind and welcoming, not in a forced “customer service” way, but like they were actually glad I stopped in. That vibe really sets Mercies apart. They were more than happy to answer all of my questions and indulge my questions and reminiscing about the lovely La Marzocco machine. And the pastries? Absolutely worth the trip. They’re made in-house and pair perfectly with their coffee, which is just as thoughtfully crafted. I tried their salted maple latte and was pleasantly surprised—it’s one of those drinks you think about long after you’ve finished it. But what really makes Mercies stand out is their mission. This isn’t just a coffee shop—it’s a business with heart. Their goal is to help end human trafficking, and you can see that commitment reflected throughout the space. They have educational materials on the walls, and they partner with organizations like Zeteo Community and Damascus Road Project to raise awareness and support survivors. It’s rare to find a place that serves such good coffee and food while also doing such meaningful work. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful place to work, a friendly community to be part of, or a way to support a good cause with your daily caffeine fix—Mercies delivers. Highly recommend.

First time going to Mercies recently, and I was impressed! You wouldn't expect how cute and cozy the inside is based on it being in a commercial-looking strip. Very bright and calm atmosphere with a variety of tables and comfy couchy seating. The staff was SO friendly. The signature breakfast sandwich was yummy (especially the red pepper garlic jelly on it).
This doesn't take away from my great experience, but my only suggestion for a change would be to consider having skim milk available. I went with 2% instead, but I prefer skim in my lattes.

Had a great time there. I'll come again
This is our favorite coffee shop in Madison, we go every single week for so many reasons, coffee and teas are top, they have really good options for sandwiches and smoothies. It has the best atmosphere where we brainstorm and disconnect at the same time, great location with plenty of parking and amazing staff always so welcoming. I recommend this place to all my friends all the time, Thank you Mercies.✨

First time there this morning. I got a couple of coffees and come breakfast. The atmosphere was amazing, and I loved the purple furniture. The cashier missed a sandwich we ordered. When the server brought out one sandwich, we asked where the second one was. They apologized and brought us the missed one right away free of charge, despite my attempts to pay for it. Will be going again.

This is a wonderful cafe. They have the best peanut butter chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had. They also have excellent coffee and lunch items. I love the egg salad sandwich. It comes with delicious pickled onions, tomato, and arugula and a small arugula salad on the side. Add chipotle mayo to the sandwich for a delightful combination of flavors.
