Very warm and inviting interior, delicious food (decent portions), and great customer service. I tried Petra due to a recommendation from a coworker (specifically their fries). Another friend recommended the baklava. We had dessert (baklava and a tea biscuit), shawarma, Saj with cheese (which was raved about online), tea, Muhammara, and a friend had the special (shawarma tacos). All the food was delicious and the tea was beautifully presented (mint and sage). I definitely will go again and hope to try their lentils. The hot Saj was so simple and yet satisfying I will probably order it every time. The shawarma bowl was so large I took it home and shared it with my family the next night for dinner (decent sizes and reasonable prices). And yes, the fries are very crunchy (yet soft inside), so I know why they’re raved about. But seriously, get the Saj!

It was nice to try Middle Eastern food here. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience pleasant. The food was good, but I wish the flavors were a bit more special. I really enjoyed the Turkish desserts at the bakery section though — they were a great way to finish the meal!

Petra Bakery and Restaurant absolutely blew me away. Honestly the best meal I’ve had in Madison in a long time! The food was exceptional, and the service was just as impressive: friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful. Our server even clarified a common menu mix-up with one of my friend’s choices, which we really appreciated.
The tea service was stunning, with fresh mint and dried sage. The hummus was creamy and full of flavor, perfectly paired with warm pita. We also shared the yogurt and cucumber salad, which was light, refreshing, and delicious.
For entrées, I had the mixed shawarma bowl and my friend ordered the beef kabobs. Both came in generous portions and were absolutely fantastic. We finished by taking home baklava (cashew and almond), and just like everything else, divine!
One note: if you’re in a hurry or feeling impatient, just be prepared. They weren’t heavily staffed during our visit, but the food came out at a good pace and the service never felt slow. We actually enjoyed having the extra time to chat and savor the tea service. It made the whole experience even more relaxing and enjoyable.
