Some of the best Mexican food in the area! Honestly the food was incredible. My wife said the chicken chimichanga was the best she had ever had! We ate in the restaurant and it was a cozy atmosphere. My only complaint was there was the same chorus to some song I have never heard on repeat for the full hour and a half we were there. No one seemed to notice! I ordered the bunuelos for dessert and it never arrived so after 35 minutes I gave up asked for the check. Overall though it was a great experience and we will definitely return.

We selected Señor Machetes to support the family in these troubled times. While it was really busy that Friday night we were seated pretty quickly and had an incredible dinner. The vegetarian machete was incredibly flavorful, and the chicken toña was awesome, with just enough spice. Service was great, highly recommended!

We were in town for work & am so happy to have found this spot while googling for dinner ideas for our group (6) with a range of dietary needs (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free in the mix). I called to see if their beans/rice had any meat broth/lard & was assured they were vegetarian! Everyone was happy with their food - the salsas, the margaritas, the guacamole, the entrees ( I had the chili relleno - photo) were delicious! We all agreed it was a favorite of the week & we will be back next visit. What a hidden gem in the heart of downtown Madison. Go.

Very nice staff, and the food was even better! My wife got a Rojo and a Verde tamale, and they were loaded with flavor. I chose the taco plate with carne asada, which also came with rice and beans. They are up there with the best tacos I've had! The salsa they offer were great flavor to pair with the tacos. We shared an horchata (IT WAS AMAZING) and we also got churros for dessert, and they were fabulous. I would recommend this if you love true authentic Mexican food! Great spot.
The food here was excellent, I typically don’t care for Mexican food but the chips and salsa were delicious as well as the cucumber water. I got the pinada salad and my mom got fajitas and we were both happy

Señor Machetes is a gem in Madison! The flavors are bold, authentic, and creative—especially the birria tacos and the machetes themselves, which are a must-try. The portions are generous and don’t forget the Churros for dessert. Staff are super friendly and welcoming, and the vibe is laid-back and fun. Highly recommend!
