Food was very good. Service was a bit slow but not too bad. Nice open space for dining.

This is now a build your own bowl place with common sushi ingredients on offering. If you know what ingredients you like you can make a decent meal for yourself for about 20 dollars. I was put off by the warm rice with cold ingredients over top and would advise sticking with the cooked meats served warm over the raw fish.

The location is owned/operated by a different staff than all the good reviews a few months ago, now it is a rather disappointing place. If you want the place all the good reviews mention go to Niji's.

Now located at the old “doolittles” and is called Niji. Love the chicken and vegetables tempura and The bento box. My husband loves the California roll, crunch 2 in 1 roll, shrimp shumai, and the Madison roll.

This place has moved down the street to East Towne boulevard by the mall. It is now called "Niji Asian Cuisine," but has the same staff from Takumi. We got a hibachi table, and the chef was absolutely fantastic. He made us laugh so many times, and made such delicious food. The filet mignon was melt in your mouth tender. The whole family loved the experience.Kid-friendliness: The kids enjoyed the food, but absolutely went bananas over the fantastic chef at the hibachi table. Wonderful entertainment!

I got take out the other day (spicy California & spicy shrimp roll). The California roll tasted like chemicals. The spicy shrimp roll didn't have much flavor, especially for being a spicy roll. I wouldn't recommend going here for sushi. The food might look pretty but it doesn't taste very good.

At first we were afraid that Takumi had just closed down. Then we noticed that they had moved to a new location just around the corner and changed their name to Niji Asian Cuisine. The new location is much bigger and nicely decorated. Food is just like we loved at Takumi! And many of the people are the same!! We’ll be back!

Won’t answer phone or take online orders. What kind of business does this? Also I’ve seen bugs in the establishment. Gross!

This place is almost always packed with people enjoying each other and good food. We placed a to-go order and as it was not ready at the same time, the gentleman from the front counter brought it out to us. Very kind. Thank you again.

Fun but super mediocre. DO NOT order vegetarian food - it’s on the menu but they don’t like to make it.We’d been coming here for years, it’s got a homey, casual vibe that made it our go-to for bringing neighbor kids & other sushi first-timers, and when we felt like visiting less fancy digs.Over the years I’ve had basically their entire pescatarian menu. Then last week I wanted vegan food & thought I’d give their vegetable sushi menu a try. I got some weird looks & “are you sure that’s what you want?” type responses. The items were all SO meh, like they seemed annoyed to make them - no seasoning, big & clunky presentation, no garnishes, WAY too much rice, just bland. As I’m paying the check (just as expensive as a pescatarian meal plus a pricy sake) the host asks “did you like it?!?” Kind of snarkilly, I basically say ‘thanks for making me the vegan food I need today for my cultural holiday’ and he replies “come back some time & try some REAL food” <sigh>I’ve been coming in for years & brought SO many people for their first sushi restaurant experience, but whatever. I’m not your target demographic I guess because I’m hardcore omnivore meaning sometimes I do want plant based items. It’s not like I made a special request. It’s on the menu. Maybe don’t put stuff on the menu that you don’t want to serve.

While passing through Madison, and upon a recommendation from a close friend, we stopped into Takumi Japanese Restaurant. I ordered the Hibachi Shrimp with Vegetables. My Daughter had the California Sushi Rolls, with a House Salad. Everything was absolutely delicious & prepared perfectly. If you have a Gluten Allergy, the staff here go the extra mile to insure you don't get anything with Gluten. Our wonderful server was Ika. She was very polite, professional and just a Sweetie. We will be back!Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free options.

I was here on the 15th for my 1st time. Takumi was recommended by Viva, someone I know. I absolutely love this place. Hands down the best sushi in not only Madison but the state. I love the white dragon roll, I'd say it's my favorite here. The sushi is fresh like it should be. Takumi is a must try if you've never been there. I'll definitely be back. Whether I'm dining in or takeout.
