I first must say that I have dined here at least 6 times in the past 30 or more years, and I live more than 3 hours away. I love Mineral Point and I love the Red Roster Cafe. The building used to be a bank back in the 1800s, I believe it is still the original ornate tin ceiling. This time my wife and I were doing the Fall Art Tour in the area. We arrived at the Red Rooster about 11:45 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2023. Sat at the counter, tables all filled. Of course the main idea was to have a pasty. This is a great place! Everything nice one could say about a small town cafe, this place has it. Very cozy, reasonable prices, very friendly service, prompt service, great ambiance, cool vibe and excellent food. It's all here. My wife and I both had a pasty, the individual, not the pie cut one. They are large and very filling. Ask for gravy with it, that's the best way to eat one. The pasty also comes with rolls and a Tuna Mac Salad for under $11. Coffee here is also excellent, bottomless cup. We shared a dessert of Bread Pudding, they make it great here, the best Bread Pudding as well. Thank you to all the staff here for a wonderful lunch!!
We figured there should be a restaurant in a historic mining region serving Cornish pasties and the Red Rooster was it. We ordered the traditional individual pies and weren’t disappointed. A bonus: an excellent wilted lettuce salad with a hot bacon dressing. Took me back to my childhood.
In the heart of Mineral Point - this is the heart of Mineral Point right here. There’s a old fashioned counter where you can sit and chat with visitors and locals alike. So much fun and we love the placemats!

Very friendly staff and delicious desserts, especially the homemade pies. We'd rate this "not to be missed" in Mineral Point.
My husband and I had some very nice meals at this well-run family restaurant. We visited twice for breakfast and once for lunch during our 2-day stay. Service was excellent and very friendly. We had no problem getting what we wanted, even with changes to some dishes due to dietary issues. My husband really enjoyed his Eggs Benedict. The fruit plate was much better than average, with a good variety and large quantity of ripe fruit. My pasty had a lot of beef and vegetables, but it needed the gravy to complement it. It was quite large, and I took more than half of it home. The coleslaw was excellent. We will visit again.
My wife and I visited Mineral Point to take in all the history of the town. We stopped in at The Red Rooster because it looked like a classic old time diner. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We each had a Cornish pasty. It was the best pasty I've had outside of the U.P. Very flaky crust, with generous filings. Uses chopped cube steak instead of the pork/beef combo I'm used to. We would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Mineral Point, or passing by on the highway. Well worth the trip!
Stopped here for lunch. Had to try the pasty but for those familiar with authentic pasty, this would be one to pass. It was pre-made and microwaved. But the the “wilted salad” (spring greens with hot bacon dressing) was delicious!
Nice friendly place!
