The biscuits and gravy were delicious, but unfortunately, the service really missed the mark. The young waitress clearly had a lot to learn about waitressing. Oddly, she didn’t even bring me a menu at the start, despite not appearing busy.
What really soured the experience was how long I had to wait for my bill. I spent more time waiting to pay than I did actually eating. Even after she noticed my empty plate pushed aside, she continued to prioritize other tables, specifically two women who were still eating and placing to-go orders. She prepped their bill and handled their orders, while I sat there ready to leave, being ignored.
When I finally asked for my bill again, she apologized for the wait. But I shouldn’t have even had to repeat my request, and by then, I’d already decided not to tip. I was stressed and frustrated by the lack of common sense or awareness on her part.
A good waitress should understand that someone ready to pay and leave should take priority over customers still actively dining. Her apology earned her a dollar, but otherwise, I left irritated. First impressions matter, and unfortunately, this one left a bad taste in my mouth.
I won’t be back, nor would I recommend this place to others based on this experience. If you do go, I suggest asking for your bill early or requesting a different server. The older waitress seemed to have a better handle on how to manage her tables. Sadly, the poor service overshadowed the good food.

Each of us tried the Cornish Pasty with cucumber salad and we shared the Figgy Hobbin. The pasty was a bit bland but maybe it’s supposed to be that way? The Chili Sauce served with it was a necessity. If you like your cucumber and onion salad sweet this one is for you. The Figgy Hobbin was delicious and rich. I am glad we split it 3 ways.

Hit it during breakfast rush and had to wait awhile for our food. Only one cook. Food a little overdone.

I came across the Red Rooster accidentally which, I believe , is the best way to discover new things. The service was friendly and the pasty was one of the best lunches I’ve ever had. I don’t know about the other items on the menu because it’s the pasty for me.
When the figgy hobbin was described to me I doubted immediately. Not a fan of nuts or raisins in my desserts… I tried anyway… warmed up with whipped cream. It was eye opening. A table of ladies who had ordered pie asked me what it was I was enjoying so much. “Figgy Hobbin”. I, for the first time ever, used my finger to lick a plate clean in public.
I have been here a few times and it is always a great experience
