La Tapatía is a staple and gem of Racine, a steady and brilliant family-run restaurant that has been creating wonderful and delicious Mexican cuisine for decades. It is family-owned and operated, with a small market inside and a cozy dining area. The service is always kind, welcoming, fast, and friendly. You can get individual meals or entire trays of tacos, though it is advised to order ahead for trays. If you eat there, they give you chips and salsa.
Their food is always good, made just as you ask, and comes out hot and fresh. The ground beef in the crispy corn tortilla with lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese is perfect. Their steak, tongue, carnitas, and tripe are incredible. The steak with avocado is the best, though you have to ask for avocado as it is not on the menu. The tamales are also delicious. They are known for their authentic quality, even for bulk and catered orders. There is nowhere in southeast Wisconsin many would prefer to enjoy tacos and tamales.
