I have not been to this wonderful of a German restaurant in some time. The staff is absolutely lovely and made every accommodation for us. The food was superb, and so was the beer. We'll definitely be coming back soon.

My brother and I came to this restaurant having heard it has some of the best German food in Milwaukee. We ordered take out and everything was nice. When we paid the bill, I didn't leave a tip because we were doing take out. Maybe that's why this happened, but they completely left out my food (Karma Parma). We called them back immediately when we saw this happened and we gave them our card number and order number. They said we would get a refund on the karma parma, but it has yet to happen. It's a shame, because the food was nice and the servers were friendly people. If it wasn't for this unfortunate experience, we would definitely come again.

Delicious food in an old world atmosphere!
Bavarian Pretzel, clam chowder soup with dark rye bread and classic fish (cod) fry with potato pancake.
This is our third time here and we will be back again when in the area.

Cool place, good food, but poor service. We waited over an hour and a half for our food to come.

Ok, this was fun. If you're looking for an old-world German restaurant experience, I'd say this is your place. I had a plum vodka drink and a polish sausage with cheese curds - how much more Wisconsin does it get? The service was great, and you couldn't beat the atmosphere. We got to sit outside for a while before it started to rain.

Been going there for 40 years. Always a great meal.

Potato pancakes hard as a rock. Fish is like eating fish sticks. Worst experience ever for a traditional fish fry.

I’ve heard so many great things about Kegel’s Inn and love German food, but was disappointed after having dinner there last night. The rouladen was tough, the schnitzel was tasteless, the red cabbage was basically from a can, no bacon or ham, and the hot bacon dressing was so acidic and spicy I couldn’t even eat it. The only thing that we liked was the German potato salad. 🙁 I’d never go back again, especially considering each entree was $35.

The service was a plus. Hostess and server were friendly, welcoming and our food came out quickly. We came for the fish fry because we’ve heard it’s great (ordered two 3-2-1 dishes). Highly overrated! They should be ashamed of themselves for serving that unseasoned, tasteless, over priced fish. We barely ate any of it after the first couple of bites. The fish reminded me of fish sticks I used to eat as kid. In fact, their fish may even be worse than fish sticks. You’d be better off getting some Van de Kamp’s from the frozen food section at the grocery store. The chicken dumpling soup was good, though.

Fun German experience in the Midwest! Very cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Great selection of beer available and tons of authentic German dishes. Sausages were excellent and price was extremely reasonable for dinner ($25-$30 per person)... Try it out!

Fish fry was good but why would a German restaurant have you pay extra for potato pancakes and the pieces of fish were so small we left there hungry. And way to noisy.

This place is celebrating 100 years for a reason. There is no better German food in Milwaukee. I can't wait to go back.

I almost never leave food reviews, but I felt I had to in the case of Kegel's. This was the best German food I've ever had in my 70 years -- including many times in Germany and from my German grandma (sorry grandma!). I've never had saurbraten so moist (how did they do that?); the red cabbage was the perfect blend of sweet and sour; the kraut had just the perfect tang; and I loved the sweet-sour hot potato salad. The architecture and atmosphere both have authentic Olde World charm. An experience not to be missed! (Oh, and the service was perfect!)
