My husband & I visited Marty's Place North last night for the first time, and we will absolutely be back again. We stopped in around 7:30pm on a Saturday night, no reservations as we had just discovered the place 5 minutes down the road from our cabin. It came highly recommended to us from a couple locals & also Fb recommendations we saw on posts over time. We figured there'd be a wait. The hostess kindly told us they were full for the evening but we could eat at the bar, which we were fine with. The place was beautiful, definitely the supper club feel. The bartenders were excellent, very kind, attentive & friendly. The old fashions were top notch. I ordered the Fruit del Mar & my husband got the 14oz ribeye w/ roasted baby reds. Food was cooked in a timely manner and both dishes were SO delicious. I had never had calamari before, but I thought to give it a try & am so glad I did. Then we finished our dinner with a hand-mixed, made from scratch grasshopper which like our meal was SO good. She mixed everything in a bowl by hand in front of us and it made the best grasshopper we've ever had. Everything about our visit was top notch and satisfying, I can't come up with one bad thing. We both highly recommend MPN and cant wait to be back again!!

My friends and I were celebrating a girls weekend up north in November of 2024 and we decided to try this place. I won't say we are high maintenance but we all have lots of supper club experience (as patrons and servers/bartenders). Marty's Place was totally amazing and took care of us swiftly at the bar and then when seated. The food was incredible! The menu classic and beyond. I would recommend this to any traveler and can't wait to go back.

Great place, it’s a staple if you’re in the northwoods!

The sea food dish was very salty! Only 2 shrimp, scallops so small they were hard to find in the linguine. Husband had prime rib that was not tender and lacked flavor. Very pricey! While we were at the table, a gentle man came to our table with an additional bar bill that they forgot to have us pay! We paid before we went to our table! WHAT??

We visit Marty's annually and as a family we enjoy the atmosphere, welcoming staff and food. The sturgeon is consistently flavorful and a perfect portion. The old fashions and cheese curds are always on point and Marty's has perfected these supper club staples. Their soups are tasty and made from scratch.
The lower rating comes from our last visit. The rib eye was ordered med rare and came out well done. They fixed it immediately, however this made it the last to eat at the table. The sides are not good. The lemon mushroom risotto was not edible and tasted like a block of parm and stale rice. The asparagus was tiny and overcooked. Improvements on sides will bring this to rating to a 5. Get the sturgeon!!

Food was fantastic. Music on the patio was better than expected. Was a little disappointed in the people around uses whining over nothing.

Dropped into Marty’s last night for the first time since it re-opened for a cocktail. Their full parking lot was a great sign of what was to come. We were very happy to see that it has been revived and feels like the Marty’s we always enjoyed many years ago. Met the new owner and his son, and learned their story and vision for the place when it was purchased. The staff we met while at the bar were very friendly and fun to talk to as well. I can’t forget to mention the incredible ice cream drinks we devoured! We will be back for dinner next!

Wonderful service. Beautiful atmosphere. Pan fried walleye had to much batter on it. Perch wasn't bad. Certainly wasn't lake superior perch. Hard to find good sweet perch like the old days.

EXTREMELY Disappointing dinner tonight. 2/21/2025 We had a Reservation @ 6pm. We arrived @ 5:28pm. They weren’t busy, so we were asked if we’d like to sit early (5:30) or enjoy a cocktail at the bar. We chose to sit early. We were escorted upstairs & seated at a nice table. After looking over the FRIDAY NIGHT MENU (there is a different one the rest of the week) my husband chose the CHEF’S CHOICE steak. Tonight it was blackened Prime Rib. When it arrived it was overdone & dry. He ordered it medium rare. It was medium- well. And there was no juice “resting” on the plate. ALL entrees (except fish fry specials) are strictly ala cart. Not even one simple side dish is included. My husband also chose a side of their potato of the evening…au gratin potatoes- good flavor, potatoes weren’t fully cooked. I chose the Piccata a la Risotto, which is offered on BOTH menus. Our server assured me it was an “excellent choice”. Theirs is made with a boneless/ skinless chicken breast. Said chicken breast was…WEIRD! You know how boneless/ skinless chicken breasts normally shred apart easily? This one wouldn’t!!! It was NOT lightly breaded- which is part of traditional piccata. Not pan sautéed. It actually seemed boiled or steamed. Risotto was strange, too- hard, like it wasn’t fully cooked. All was swimming in olive oil & even though I’ve brushed my teeth twice since arriving home, I can still taste that disgusting, nasty taste you when you accidentally cough or sneeze while spraying on perfume, plus a fake lemon oil flavor. The piccata sauce wasn’t creamy. No idea if it was made with butter & wine, but it sure didn’t appear or taste that way. Service was terrible!!!!! Our server NEVER asked if we’d like a 2nd cocktail, more water, coffee, dessert, nothing! She just threw a bill for 109.64 @ ME, not my husband. When the reservation was made it was stated we were celebrating a special occasion- my birthday! We normally tip 25-30%. I didn’t even want to leave 10%! As we were leaving the hostess asked if we enjoyed everything & we told her NO & why. Being in the restaurant business we totally understand having an off night. My husband is a professional chef. (Yes, he went to culinary school). We also know & understand that each chef has their own interpretation of dishes/ recipes. Unfortunately the entire experience left us feeling we won’t be back anytime soon, if ever.

Went for Fri night fish fry, but decided to try the coconut shrimp which was very good. The shrimp sauce was not what I like, but I know some people would like it. Bar tender did a great job with mixing drinks. We will definitely revisit this place when we are up this way on vacation.
