A cozy, hole-in-the-wall style place. The food is made to order and came out so hot I had to wait to eat it! The onion rings are clearly hand battered and very crispy. (The steak hoagie normally comes with chips, but I upgraded). They are generous with the sandwich filling, and the bread is grilled before they load in the meat and veggies. I will definitely be coming back! Take note that neither pizza nor calzones are available at this time.

The place is downtown Charleston,
Small, rustic, authentic, the Clam Chowder was the best ,
The Ruben was huge, juicy, and the bread just perfect

The English dog was amazing! I also had the onion rings and sweet tea! For a girl born in WV and grew up in PA it's hard to find good hot dogs and sweet tea. You are on point! Love it

Under new management with pretty much the same menu. The fish sandwich had a strange taste. I didn't like it at all.

So I've always heard the term "greasy spoon" applied to small, (usually) family-run, restaurants that serve good, comfort food to local clientele. I don't know if The Grill is "family-run", but it IS small, it DOES serve good, comfort food, and it seemed most of the customers were locals. This place is a leteral hole-in-the-wall, blink-and-you'll-miss-it, eatery. It could be neater or fancier, but that's not what's important at The Grill. Instead, food and friendliness is the name of the game. (They even use paper plates for some orders, but who cares what the plates are made of - I'm not gonna eat those!) I had the fried balogna sandwich with an order of fries. The server said I would be getting a plate of fries... and she wasn't kidding! Everything tasted great. I say give The Grill a try!
