My daughter went to DMC ED dept. this evening, fevered, high risk pregnancy, and having a hard time breathing. They half triage her and send her to the waiting room. Her husband asked if they could take her temperature and again tells them that she is high risk. They say they'll call the O.B floor to see if they can get her in up there, and still don't bother to take her temperature, or seemed to worry about the shortness of breath. She's been there for a hot minute at this point so Momma Bear comes out. I called th O.B. floor explained the situation asked if they could call down and coordinate something the nurse said if the ED dr ordered it they could bring her up. So I asked if the had rooms open or should the son in law just take her on to St Joe's. The nuse said they do have have rooms open, and they can bring her up if the ED dr orders it. I call the son in law back he said they just came out and told him that the O.B floor didn't want her up there, and it might be a good idea to get in the car and take her to St Joes. So they head out and guess what no hesitating St. Joe's takes her straight to the O.B. floor and start helping her. Shame on you DMC

I was sent to a Pulmonologist at the Better Sleep Center for a smoke inhalation injury from a house fire and ongoing complications. The Pulmonologist didn’t even bother to ask me my symptoms, interrupted me when I tried to tell him what happened, ignored facts concerning the incident, and when questioned acted as though he couldn’t be questioned because he has “the education and experience.” Why was I questioning him? Because after he decided he wasn’t going to ask me what my symptoms were, he began questioning me about seasonal allergies and snoring while sleeping. He claimed I have sleep apnea and stated I just didn’t recognize it until after my injury. I have NO history of sleep issues and my symptoms have zero to do with sleeping. I would be curious as to the money motivation for medical facilities in sending people for sleep tests and further investigation of “sleep apnea.” He also stated that the only concern for my situation was carbon monoxide and their are no long term effects possible. He belittled the fact that a previous physician ordered a Hydrogen Cyanide lab as it was “not necessary.” That’s an immediate concern for anybody that’s educated in treatment of structure fire victims. I asked him how breathing superheated air was not of concern to which he blew off. After all this, as I am leaving the room since he has made up his mind, he had the nerve to say. “Why don’t you let me listen to your lungs?” Seems a little late to assess your patient after being so firm in a diagnosis that had nothing to do with the reason for the visit. If you’re looking for an easy way to a sleep study, by all means go there. That’s where the conversation will lead. If you have another respiratory issue, go elsewhere.
