Our extremely disappointing experience.
We came to Taste of Asia in Huntington, WV after seeing the glowing reviews and appealing food and drink photos online. Based on the high ratings, we expected a great experience—especially after a long, exhausting workday. Unfortunately, it was anything but.

After being seated, it took over 30 minutes just to get our drink order taken. My husband and I both ordered the Flaming Volcano, which is supposed to be one of their signature cocktails. We were really looking forward to it—hoping it would help us unwind—but when it finally arrived, it was incredibly weak. There was basically no alcohol in it at all, which was frustrating and disappointing.

It took another 10–15 minutes just to get our food, and when mine came out, it wasn’t even my order—they gave me someone else’s. I had to wait again while they remade it. I ordered sushi; my husband and the rest of our team got hibachi. When my husband ordered, he clearly specified no onions due to an allergy. But the chef still cooked the onions in with all the vegetables. When my husband explained he couldn’t eat them, it turned into an awkward and uncomfortable scene. The chef didn’t understand, everyone at the table stared, and my husband ended up having to skip part of his meal. It was embarrassing and unnecessary.

Things got even worse at the hibachi table next to us. A family with a small child had waited at least 30 minutes just for a cook to come out. When he finally did, he used a toy that squirts vodka onto the grill as part of the show—but he missed and shot vodka directly into the baby’s eye. The baby immediately started screaming, understandably—vodka burns. How that even happens is beyond me.

On top of all this, the service throughout was incredibly slow. While I recognize that the restaurant was severely understaffed, and our server was doing their best under pressure, the overall customer experience still matters—and it just wasn’t good. At face value, the service was poor. The drinks had no alcohol, the food came out late and wrong, and parts of the team appeared to be doing very little. We even tried to order margaritas after our disappointing volcanoes, but we ended up finishing our entire meal before the drinks ever came. While we were waiting, we could clearly see two bartenders up front: one was just standing around talking, and the other wasn’t doing anything at all. We eventually canceled the drink order and gave up.

Also worth noting: when I first sat down, the chair was sticky—which was absolutely disgusting and made me question the overall cleanliness of the restaurant.

Having worked in waitressing, cocktail waitressing, and bartending, I can say from firsthand experience: these jobs are tough, especially during a rush. But even under pressure, this kind of disorganized and careless service is inexcusable. It felt like we were being ignored—not just that the place was busy. I gave two stars for the service because our server was trying his hardest and he had so many tables so he was run all over the place. Would have been three if it weren’t for the allergy situation.

In the end, I honestly don’t understand how this place is so highly rated. Maybe standards here are different, but for us, this was not acceptable. We won’t be back.

Let me tell you about an awful experience turned incredible.
I was traveling a long distance with my child, and we were exhausted. We stopped at a hotel to get some food and rest, which we seldom do (stay at a hotel OR order out for food) but was much needed.
Online we found an Asian style restaurant that offered GrubHub because we didn't even have the energy left to go out and find food. We ordered red curry, yellow curry (both with tofu and white rice), miso soup, and a salad, and patiently waited for our food as we settled in at our home away from home for the night.
The GrubHub driver sent some short communications while we waited, each message bringing us a little closer to caloric sustenance. After a few of these messages and a period of silence, we received a message that stated our food had been delivered. I peeked outside our door, but there was nothing except space on the carpet in front of our door. I grabbed the room key and went downstairs to see if it was there with no luck. I came back up to the room and still no food outside our door. I messaged the driver.
He insisted he left the food at our door and reluctantly said he would come back to see where it was. I asked him to stay on the phone with me, so that I could check my floor first to save him a trip, but he would have to come back and check the other floors if I wasn't able to find it on my floor.
I did find it- in front of another room on my floor.
I could immediately see that the bag was torn in the middle and soggy with curry sauce. The carpet in front of the other room had sauce soaking in, seeping from the wet paper (which I later needed to scrub the carpet clean).
I described to the delivery driver what I was seeing as I picked the bag up, supporting the bottom, so that the food didn't drop to the floor, and attempted to inspect it with no luck without creating a bigger mess. I brought the bag to my room and put it down on the sink counter to try to contain the mess. I tried to get one of the containers out of the bag to see if anything could be salvaged. The sauce began dripping from the sides of its container onto the container beneath it, which was also leaking over the sides and all over the bottom of the bag. The driver insisted that was how the restaurant gave it to him, he had no fault in this, and I would need to call the restaurant to get it fixed.
I called the restaurant, and they assured me they would never send food out in that state and that I would have to contact GrubHub. I frustratingly explained to the restaurant owner/manager what happened with my GrubHub driver and that we were just trying to eat and rest so we could recharge before the next leg of our trip. He said regardless of what happened or where the fault lies, he couldn't have us go hungry. He himself remade our food and hand-delivered it to our hotel room without any cost to us.
WOW.
Never have I ever had such a terrible experience that was turned around in such an exemplary manner! This owner/manager was genuine and cared so much about his customers that he went above and beyond what most people would do to fix it and treated us like people rather than just customers. This man is the unicorn of customer service.
On top of that, the food is legit -UNREAL- delicious, and SO on caliber with the customer service we received.
The curry was rich and coconutty with distinctively Thai herbs and seasonings that clung to the fresh veggies and perfectly fried tofu. Everything was fresh, cooked deliciously, and made with care.
I can't recommend this place enough. We make this trip at least once a year, and plan to make this restaurant a definite stop on our route!

We had a large party, about 25-30 people, for a friend’s 93rd birthday. The staff were so kind and the food was delicious. They accommodated the family and set up his cake options (letting them bring in his favorites from outside) and also gifted him a dessert. Our server was so sweet. It’s his favorite place to eat and they did not disappoint.

So disappointed in the food recently. They must have changed food quality because it’s been HORRIBLE. Like not even edible to be honest. I was very shocked as this use to be an every week restaurant for us but we haven’t had time to eat here recently. So sad.

Just wasn’t what I expected for a Hibachi place the food was not worth what we paid for it and we felt rushed we didn’t even get a fortune cookie🤷🏻‍♀️

Rice was dry I asked for a new better rice and she did not want to give me a fresh better rice, so just ate the cost and left the food

Wait for hibachi was way too long. We chose to eat at a regular dining table with our group. Food was good, service was fast.

Since new ownership the food is always hot, flavorful and fresh. The staff is amazing, favorite being Caitlin. There’s good chances you may meet the Owner Ming if so is absolutely fantastic.

Food quality has dropped drastically. Very cheap quality food will it be going back.
