It's a small restaurant that serves great food in an atmosphere of the best kind of neighborhood public house.

We enjoyed lunch at this quaint English pub themed restaurant with a bit of a college hangout vibe. The food was excellent! My husband enjoyed a chicken curry and I had essentially shepherd's pie, though it is called cottage pie. Good selection of beers on tap such as Smithwicks and Guinness. Our only complaint is that it was a cold day and it was cold in the restaurant. We will definitely return.Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access with no steps.

Well..... Christmas Eve walked in for a couple drinks with 3 others, bartender working at 845 male, was extremely rude and unfriendly for no apparent reason, so we just turned around and walked out. Very strange place. I would recommend elsewhere

I don't usually post bad reviews, but this experience was not pleasant. We arrived at 11, but were told there would be a 15 minute wait. We could see them inside cleaning, obviously had not be done on closing the night before. 15 minutes turned into 45, with no other patrons stopping by. That should have been a warning. They finally opened and we took a seat. The table was sticky, but we were starving, so. I ordered their cream tea, which is 2 scones with Devonshire cream and jam and a pot of tea. The scones were advertised as fresh baked. They were fresh microwaved and the smallest scones I've ever seen. The Devonshire cream amounted to some chunky bits in the bottom of a little cup, barely enough for a thin spread. The jam was from a jar. The tea was served in a large pot with a cozy, which was nice, and my husband had to send his cup back with a hair in it. The scones were so measly that I had to order a banger to fill me up. My husband got the full English breakfast. Some items were cold, others hot. The place is for sale and there was only one other person the whole time we were there, so not surprising. Our waiter, who was also the cook and bartender, was pleasant. As we left, I noticed my shoes were sticking to the floor. We walked out the door and both said, never again.

Unloved English Pub trying to figure out whether it's a quaint local bar or a British pub catering to the local college scene. Affordable prices, adequately prepared fish & chips and Welsh rabbit, pot pies and stews - standard pub favorites.. just missing something that makes you want to return.Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access from public sidewalk directly to seating area or restrooms. Bar has benchtop height seating.

Took 45 minutes after ordering for food to arrive. And the server had no sympathy for the poor service provided. Flies everywhere. And the food was not tasty. Don’t recommend

Was really disappointed in this place. There were flies **everywhere** (a health violation that alone deserves to have it shut down) our waiter was very impersonal and needed to learn proper serving. This place is not British at all. Just a lousy theme or stereotype of British pubs. >> PLEASE go somewhere else!!! <<

When you think of a British pub, this place fits the bill. A small slice of Britain just off the main street in Shepherdstown yielded an excellent beer selection on tap and some great pub appetizers. The bartenders were also the waitstaff, and the place was busy. TV's with sports playing (but not overly loud or taking over the place, dark wood behind the bar, regulars at the bar, and a steady stream of people coming and going.
Top notch service from Marion. We're visiting from Texas and couldn't be happier to have visited this establishment. Food, drinks, atmosphere...checks every box.

Afternoon tea was a five star experience, very British very proper. The music on the other hand was a little too loud To enjoy tea ... but then again they are marketed as a pub.

The Reuben and fries I got was very good. My dog, who was allowed inside, got spoiled with dog bones (which were okayed by me). Service was good and friendly!

My wife, mother, and I enjoyed a fantastic lunch today at the Devonshire, and we wouldn't have changed a thing. The warm inviting atmosphere, older classic music, fast service, and delicious fare all combine to make a memorable experience for anyone. Our visit was made even more special by the periodic visits from the owner, Carolyn. We felt as if she was an old friend we'd known for years. If you're visiting Shepherdstown and desire a spot of tea, a pint of beer, or some great food, we'd strongly recommend The (dog friendly) Devonshire
Loved it! Super friendly staff especially Imogen!
