Elk River Hotel Reviews
I waited more than 48 hours to receive a response from management/owners and received none. Here is my honest review of my experience. My sister and I had a very disappointing stay on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 for many reasons. I specifically chose Elk River Hotel & Cafe because of all the good reviews I saw on TripAdvisor. However, our experience was less than stellar.

The food is great! When you can order, that is. If you call to place an order, 75% of the time you can expect to be told that they cannot take any other orders for either several hours or the rest of the night. We stumbled upon this place while out visiting Gassaway WV. We absolutely loved it. The food was incredible. I had the summer salad with grilled salmon. I am looking forward to booking a stay or even an event in the future. Maybe a wedding in my near future. I highly recommend!

Elk River Hotel offers a unique and charming experience in Sutton, West Virginia. The hotel is a combination of a historic house, side houses, and glamping domes, providing a variety of accommodations for guests. The historic century home is clean and charming, making it a great spot for summer stays and glamping. The glamping domes are notably larger than expected, with a big, clean space that includes a kitchen area and bathroom. Guests enjoy the fantastic view over the river, and the domes have a great yard space for socializing or kids to play. Inside, the climate is comfortable, and the domes feature a skylight and a half-open side to enjoy the outdoors.
The staff is friendly and accommodating, with notable mentions for Francisco, a welcoming host who is also a terrific cook. Guests appreciate the helpfulness of staff, such as clearing snow off cars and offering transportation options when needed. The hotel’s location is ideal for exploring nearby attractions like the Bigfoot Museum and the Flatwood Monster Museum, which provide good insights into local folklore. There is only one restaurant in town, Braxton Bistro, which serves average cheeseburgers and above-average ribs, and a basement bar with a Fallout theme where visitors can enjoy local craft beers and cocktails.
Overall, Elk River Hotel is praised for its friendly staff, unique accommodations, and beautiful setting by the river, making it a perfect base for relaxing stays, day trips, and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Visitors often express a desire to return, especially to enjoy sitting by the river or exploring the area’s folklore.
