“With excellent support and services from the owner family and staff, we organized the inaugural Eid Social for a large group of BC Public Service employees at Syriana on April 19, 2024. The event allowed us to get together enjoying scrumptious food, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. The buffet had wide variety of selections for everyone including appetizers, desserts and tea at the end. As you think of organizing your next party or get-together, consider Syriana. The salad is always so good, just the perfect amount of dressing and crunchy crotons with lots of cheese on top! “When I came to the restaurant, the staff was incredibly friendly. It felt like I was in a boutique restaurant. We ordered a chai and it had a lovely aroma definitely was made fresh, samosas the pastry was nice and flaky. It had a light seasoning on it very crispy, but not overcooked. The flavour on the inside was lovely and it was served with a red tamarind sauce sauce that was a little spicy. then I had goat biryani and chicken biryani the goat and chicken were so tender, not rubbery like most restaurants. The flavour was good. Gulab jamun the soft cake, texture, and the sweet of the sauce with rose water You could see the fresh spices they used now this was a total authentic experience. I will definitely come back again and again”

“The atmosphere there is so good if you are looking for an European style restaurant. To be honest, the food there is just fine. There is no doubt it’s good and better than merchandise but not as good as other Italian or French. Generally, the food there is healthy and plain.”

“The people here are so so lovely and the food is very good! Fresh fish, good portions, reasonable prices. The poke bowls are particularly tasty, and their rolls are also always excellent (caterpillar roll and futomaki roll are two of my favourites). Also have a fun assortment of drinks including several flavours of Ramune. Easy to order online, usually prepared within 15-20 minutes for pickup. My coworkers and I are regulars.”

The other dish was Maiale al Brandy (pork) and twas cooked to our liking too!Overall, experience was really good! Food never disappoint. First time in the rebuilt Oak Bay Beach Hotel and it was gorgeous, upscale but not pretentious.Had the Bianco Verde and Margherita with added arugula. The tomato sauce was flavourful and the outer crust was chewy and nicely done. It got quite soggy quickly so perhaps the thickness under the toppings needs to be dialed in, but will definitely be back!”

“I just wanted to shoutout Josh from this location. Yesterday, one of his co-workers mis-heard me in the drive through (and tbh wasn’t very kind about it and was certain I ordered wrong… I can hear you even in my car lol). I was charged for food I didn’t order and the total was $$$. After I tapped my card, I realized the order was wrong. Josh did the MOST for me. The register machine wouldn’t refund me and Josh was willing to try everything before alternative options (like a gift card). Josh + the co-worker with a beard… legends! Your costumer service skills are top-notch and deserve some recognition.”

Not a huge deal, but still.Overall: I go at least once a week because it’s a dimly lite place that’s nice to sit and have coffee-scone meditation time early in the morning. The place is always pack and by 9-10 these a line to the door. That speaks for itself. Would recommend a visit if you haven’t had the pleasure. Would also recommend the staff give the tables a wipe.”

Our server, Raj, was pleasant, professional, and ever so friendly.* update for Celiacs…. I did suffer a celiac reaction post this initial review. Looking further on the web it seems they do not have a dedicated fryer (would love confirmation). My guess is that the pakora I had was cross-contaminated with Samosas, etc.”

It looks like the owner knows every customer! There was one guy during our lunch coming in to just say hello to the owner, and asked if she can open longer time. The food is fantastic as well. But I would say we are more amazed by the atmosphere here which we can hardly find in big cities like Vancouver. If you ask me if I will come here again, the answer is definitely yes! “I’ve honestly stopped going to any other Starbucks location other than Shelbourne Plaza!I have a “complicated” drink and they’re always so nice to me when I need to make modifications to it!I get the strawberry açai lemonade with extra base. They don’t know this but I have a chronic vomiting disorder and if my drink has too much acid I will puke, which is why I am so picky. They’re always so nice to add extra base if needed which is way less than at other Starbucks locations because they actually read the drink tag.I’m so grateful for this location and them always being kind when accommodating my needs! They truly go above and beyond.”

Some of the staff were at another location that I frequented in the recent past and have treated me well at both locations. “I have been to many fine dining restaurants however the experience at Marilena Cafe with Josh was phenomenal and next to none. He had great hospitality, recommendations and attention to detail.We tried oysters, sushi, pasta, steel head, chicken and desserts. Couldn’t find a single dish that i didn’t like. “The dine around caused some issues with our meal since I was the only one in a party of 6 that got the dine around.I am not sure what happened but I got my first course (appy) at the same time as everyone else got their meal. And then by the time I got my main course, everyone else was finished their meal.So that was a little annoying!However the manager heard my complaint and comp'd the meal. That was truly excellent customer service and I really appreciated that he recognized the awkwardness while I ate my meal and everyone else was done.Also, because of that we ordered an extra bottle of wine so I think it was a win for everyone.So great recovery and this saved the evening. This is the kind of place where the whole staff really put their values and tastes into the food and wine pairings, so be prepared for something new. It’s not like their peanuts from Superstore, but from a tiny experimental farmer in Shawnigan. This is the place Bourdain was thinking of when he said “eat at a local restaurant tonight. get the cream sauce…”. Live a little. Eat here.”

“I don't really understand the low ratings for this restaurant. We decided to go here for family day and ordered the family meal for 6 and prawns in black bean sauce. The food was delicious and arrived quickly. The egg rolls were by far the best I have ever had. Our server was kind and made us feel like we were family. We were doted on and spoiled and even when we were leaving we were acknowledged and thanked and asked to come again. The restaurant is older and has been in the area for a long time so it isn't the Ritz but it was authentic and the service was incredible and we were all so pleased that we are definitely going back. The portions were massive and way below what we would have paid anywhere else. I am writing this review 5 hours later and we are still stuffed. We would like to thank Wings restaurant and our server for the incredible meal and service today.”

“We decided to try the Boom and Batten after walking by it numerous times. A pleasant atmosphere if not a bit noisy as the lunch crowd arrived. We both chose breakfast items for lunch. The standard breakfast of Eggs and Sausage and the Classic Eggs Benedict. Both came with hash browns which were done differently and very tasty. The back bacon on my Benny was very salty and spoiled the dish a bit for me but it was still good. We didn't have any alcohol as prices for wine were pretty high.”

“I went yesterday with a friend to this bar, my friend is not from the city and he fell in love. the bar is beautiful! It is very well maintained, it is warm and with a very good atmosphere. You can find groups of young friends, couples, families, older people, everyone fits here. The food was delicious and the cocktails incredible. but the best thing about this bar is sitting at the bar and being served by the bartender. He is very cordial, kind and friendly. It's like when you say he does his job very well, it seems like he's not working.”

We went back multiple times and no other restaurant in Victoria that we ate at compared to it. “I ordered spaghetti with meat sauce, and the quantity of spaghetti noodles was ample and properly cooked. However, there was enough sauce for a quarter of the noodles provided. The bread was nice, and the basic green salad was good. I liked that freshly grated parmesan was offered, too. The bathroom was clean, the server was fantastic, and the price was very good, considering it included the main dish, soup or salad, bread, and a scoop of ice cream. It also included tea or coffee, but it would have been even better if pop was one of the drink options, as caffeine that late in the day doesn't work for everyone.My child had pepperoni pizza from the kids' menu, and she thought it was great. She also enjoyed the soup, bread, and ice cream. The kids' menu drinks that come with the meal are free refills, including the juice, surprisingly, and the refill didn't need to be the same as originally ordered.I would eat here again if we were going out with a group who chose this restaurant, but it isn't somewhere I'd choose for just my family and I.Dietary restrictions: There were limted gluten free options (cauliflower penne noodles were available to substitute for any of the pastas on the menu). No gluten free bread or soup or ice cream. They did offer a bowl of grated ice with flavour syrup (like a snow cone) in place of the ice cream.Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly. The kids' menu had a variety of choices, including pizza and chicken tenders, for those who don't eat spaghetti or tortellini. Kids' menu drinks are free refill, including the juice, which is really nice when your kids aren't drinking pop.”
