“Treated myself to breakfast at Mike's Coffee shop for the first time in yearrrs. I ordered crispy corned beef hash with grits, scrambled eggs and buttered wheat toast. I was really hungry after working overnight. Mike's hit the spot. The staff is still very pleasant. My bill was really low and my coffee was superb.“

“This is one of the oldest establishments on Avenue U . They have been there 50 years that I know of . Their donuts are okay . The coffee is probably the best coffee on Avenue u. Sometimes the staff can get a little grouchy but they're basically hard-working decent people . Every so often some crazy person comes in and it can be quite entertaining . The Establishment itself is a little rundown but it's okay . There is no place cheaper than this on Avenue U and the food is reasonable and good .“

The staff is warm, welcoming and treat every customer with the utmost respect. The restaurant itself is very clean, even before our current COVID situation. They take this pandemic very seriously and they make sure that they follow all the protocols suggested by the CDC and our State Government. “Admittedly, this is not Rao's or a high-end restaurant. However the food was excellent. It is like a "guilty pleasure" type joint, as you can't eat this stuff every day because of the calories. This place takes you back to the days when you could go into a diner and sit at a booth. Sadly, those days are slowly ending, and all we have these days for the most part are healthy restaurants with tiny portions and yuppies with attitudes as customers. It is great to see a place like this still exist in Park Slope, like a blast from the past. I ordered rice and beans which were massive and excellent. Grilled cheese and fries also good. The donuts and milkshakes are also pretty damn good, and the salads are fresh.They are also very friendly. Great bang for your buck compared to other Park Slope restaurants. They are also open seemingly 365 days a year. If you place a big enough order, you can usually convince them to deliver outside their normal range, so they are flexible about that kind of thing. Seems like you’re lucky to get 2 slices for that price these days but FAD provides 4 slices.I would say the only other worthwhile diner in the neighborhood is Little Purity on 7th Ave. When you’re looking for a no frills diner that is friendly on the budget, all the other diners in the neighborhood seem to either have one of the following: bad food, bad service, over-priced, or too fancy. There isn’t a better diner diner place in the neighborhood if you’re not looking for a “fancy diner” experience“

“I am a Brooklyn gal a good diner is critical for me from time to time. You ask why? Ok here's the deal good bold coffee and delicious omelettes. “It was a midnight snack that we were searching for; for my fiance. We ordered a Belgian waffle to go as they were closing. The atmosphere was very pleasant, super friendly owner; deep conversations were had. We took the waffle into our car and as my fiance uncovered it, the car filled with notes of cooked batter with a vanilla scent. She only spoke once after the first bite, to proclaim its excellence!! “I had the Full Irish Breakfast. It was pretty good. I tried the Irish black pudding and Irish white pudding for the first time. I found out it's a blood sausage the black one and the white one doesn't have blood. I didn't know that. I thought it was going to be like the kind of pudding that we know in the USA. I liked the sausage and the bacon. I don't know why it was called Irish sausage and Irish bacon because I couldn't tell the difference from USA bacon and sausage. The home fries were decent. The toast was good. The coffee was okay. It was not the best coffee but it was drinkable. I liked the scrambled eggs just fine. I've been wanting to check this place out for a couple years so I was happy to go. The man who worked there taking orders was nice.“
