My first time at El Salto did not disappoint! I went for their trial run of thier breakfast meals and got their Perico, chorizo y queso arepa with a side of maduros. The arepa was nothing short of perfect. The masa was a perfect blend of crispy outside and soft inside. Every bite was consistantly flavorful. The maduros were fried to perfection and a hefty amount. I tried the reina pepiada which was pretty good tasting but did not blow me away. It came with a a side of maduros. The pricing is fairly steep, with the arepas ranging from $12-$15. For comparison, La Arepa has vegan arepas for $9-$10. I do not feel that the pricing is competitive for a food cart. That said, this place is worth checking out. I tried Arepa Reina Pepiada, and Patacones de Carne Asada. They both were sooo delicious. Man I love street food in Portland and how creative people get. The Patacones de asada is definitely something you would wanna try! I love how they turn the plantain into a bread.
