We had such a nice time for a family dinner over holidays from UK. Great place, nice food and top service. Really enjoyed it
Steak was tough and over salted Sent it back and second steak was just as bad I cancelled my dinner
One of the best dining experiences my partner and I have had to date! Celebrated a special occasion here at 1888 and Nicholas and the staff made it so special. Nicholas was so knowledgeable, attentive, and gave excellent recommendations. Everything we ordered was incredible! We especially vouch for the king crab, ribeye, and the elderflower/mascarpone dessert. Must try in the bow valley!
Food was great, ambiance in what they called "the lounge" which was basically the mezzanine hallway, was mostly good but there was a lot of walking traffic and other tables did get loud - the stone work and arches amplified the noise. Expensive, but that's expected in this location. Service was just okay. We were served by several different staff so there was no consistency in service. When we made the reservation, we were asked if we were celebrating anything, we stated it was our anniversary, but then that wasn't really acknowledged in a meaningful way.
Wonderful dinner - had the Japanese Waygu steak and think it was the best steak I've ever eaten. Service was excellent and our server was very attentive. Highly recommend
My steak was ordered medium, but served rare. But the waiter quickly had it cooked a bit more. It was delicious, as was the loaded tater tots and snap peas. The maple old fashioned beast also quite good.
Wonderful food and exceptional service. Wine recommendations were helpful and spot on. We ordered the chef's special T-Bone with whipped potatoes and brussel sprouts. Everything was delicious.
The hotel staff touted this restaurant as having the greatest steak in Banff. I have had a better steak at Texas Roadhouse.
Service was really slow. Our reservation was for 9 p.m., and we didn't leave until 11 p.m. Porterhouse lacked flavor, and the sides weren't impressive for the price.
We also ordered a sundae for dessert, but it seemed like gas station soft serve. The other pictures I've seen online from other customers show scoops of ice cream and not soft serve.
We were really looking forward to dining at this restaurant during our honeymoon as a special dinner but unfortunately it fell very short of expectations.
As for the food, it didn’t live up to expectations. The mashed potatoes were mostly butter (& this comes from someone who loves butter) and the steak was overcooked. Among everything we ordered, the broccolini was the best part of the meal, which says a lot. Additionally, nobody came to check on us once we got our food for the chance to request send the steak back.
Overall, we expected better from a place that was highly recommended. While some of the staff was polite, others were somewhat condescending and not helpful. The atmosphere and food quality left a lot to be desired. In Banff/Canmore - there are plenty of other options I would suggest going to first.
We were really looking forward to dining at the Fairmont restaurant, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We were seated at a table in what was essentially a hallway, right by the path to the washrooms and the main dining area. Constant foot traffic from servers, guests, and staff made it very uncomfortable, with absolutely no ambience. We asked to switch tables, but were told no.
As for the food, it didn’t live up to expectations. The chicken dish we ordered was unevenly cooked—burnt in some areas and undercooked in others. We had to send it back and request a new one, which further disrupted the experience. Among everything we ordered, the asparagus was the best part of the meal, which says a lot.
Overall, we expected better from a place with such a reputation. While the staff were polite, the atmosphere and food quality left a lot to be desired.

I had an outstanding experience at 1888 Chop House. The food was excellent—each dish was prepared to perfection and full of flavor. The service from our waiter, Adam, was exceptional—he was attentive, knowledgeable, and made our evening truly special. Highly recommend this place for a top-notch dining experience!
My mom is extremely picky and still raved about how incredible the meal here was. They also have a huge variety of halal options.
Great atmosphere, service and above else food and drinks.
Everything about this meal and service were amazing!! We had some delicious cocktails to start and a Somali came over and recommended an amazing bottle of wine. Our food was superb, definitely exceeded our expectations! Our server, Morgan, was absolutely amazing and made our night extra special! Would highly recommend :)
Fantastic dinner, and fantastic service to march. Adam waited on us through the evening and made sure we were well taken care of. He made our final night in Banff one to remember.
