If you’re going to eat fish and chips in the middle of the Canadian Rockies, you might as well do it with a mountain view—and the Rose & Crown absolutely delivers on that front. Our table overlooked a postcard-worthy scene so perfect, I half-expected someone to yell “Cut! Back to your marks!”
Service was genuinely above average—warm, attentive, and the kind where you can tell they actually care whether you’re enjoying yourself. A rare and welcome trait in a busy tourist town.
Now, onto the star of the show: the Friday fish-and-chips special. The fries? Wonderfully crispy. The batter? Golden and beautifully crunchy. The fish inside the batter? Well… let’s just say it was playing a very successful game of hide-and-seek. I’ve seen more fish in a high school aquarium. Maybe the Friday discount applies to the cod itself.
Don’t get me wrong—it tasted good! But compared to the Rose & Crown in London or even the one in Disney World, where the fish is substantial enough to have dreams and ambitions, this was more “batter with personality.”
Still, between the caring service, the unbeatable view, and the fact that crispy anything tastes better at altitude, it’s absolutely worth a visit. Next time, I’ll just skip the Friday special and pay full price… hopefully for full fish.
When in the Rockies, you might as well lean into the charm—and this place has plenty. 😄

On an impromptu night alone, I had some drinks here before heading to my hotel for the night. Live music on a Monday was a nice treat. Thanks to the bartender (forgot his name) and regular named Leo (I believe?) for making me feel very welcome! Highly recommend! Great feel in the space even when quiet.

Came into here after a few drinks, ordered some pizza at a similar time to some friends. Food came out after about 50 mins, despite friends food coming out significantly earlier and bring finished by the time mine arrived. Staff were rude about the situation and not understanding whatsoever. While I understand the experience is decent for the majority of people - staff are dismissive and uncaring when orders go wrong. Would not recommend

TLDR: Got food poisoning, no one in my party of 12 liked their food, service was slow, tried to charge extra, bathrooms gross, place empty and sad
Gonna start off by saying I literally got Salmonella or something from this place. I ordered the BBQ chicken wings, which tasted nothing like good BBQ, and I thought it tasted raw but I thought I was just off because of the taste. Well, its been 3 days and I've been vomiting and diarrhea really bad.
Aside from me, my entire party did not like their food. Only exception was the burger, the ones that got that found it fine. But we tried the fries, brisket sandwiches, Mac and cheese, nachos and no one liked those.
Service was slow, 10 minute wait just for the drink order, then just under an hour for food (fair enough, we were a big group), and also a wait for the checks. When it comes to paying, one of my party members got charged the full price nachos even though they were on special. If we hadn't told them they would've made us pay for that. Then, after correcting them, there was still $5 extra because their online prices dont match their in house prices.
Lastly, it was dead inside. Pretty gloomy atmosphere, crappy tables and chairs, nasty bathrooms, messy reception.
Hate being a hater, but I must recommend trying literally any other place in Banff before you try this one. Not worth the risk of getting food poisoning and crappy food

6 friends of 40 years on a reunion trip to Banff needed a drink and a snack on a Sunday afternoon. (We partied at the Rose and Crown as kids 36 years ago.) HOLY CRAP was it ever good. We had cocktails, beers and cider. Started with a plate of delicious perogies to share as an appetizer. Then we had various dishes. Onion soup was the best one person has ever had. Breakfast plate (bacon, sausages and eggs) were SUBLIME. The food was all absolutely fantastic.
The service was professional and friendly.
This place KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK!!!!

Went on Sunday with friends. The cauliflower bites gave me food poisoning.
Really nice bar, live music, friendly staff. Food is really tasty, they have little gluten free options. Cider is also really good. We are going there almost once a week! Truly recommend

This used to be our go to in Banff especially the patio. Feel it's lost its mojo. Plus 16oz pints. Will go to the brewery downstairs going forward.
