Amazing space. Great prices, great people, great shows, great atmosphere, new sound system too. And good pool tables!
I moved here a year ago and this place became my favorite venue for dance nights and metal shows. This is one of my favorite things about Calgary.
Although i do have a suggestion: it would be great if the show posters list the show time as well as the doors time. So, my rating is 4.9 stars. Still love the place ❤ - edit on this: I have been told that the doors and show times on the posters are under the promoter's control, not the venue's, so back to 5 stars for Dickens.

I'd vote 10 stars if I could. Staff is awesome My girlfriend said she had felt very safe, like they knew she felt uneasy and understood. (it was her 1st death metal concert) & also the concert was A1 seeing Inferi, Demon King, Vitriol, & Grey Lotus. Sound quality and volume are great, too. Classic spot for touring metal bands 🔥 THX Dickens 🙏🩵

Dickens is a great venue for live music and the food and drinks are surprisingly good for a bar. That said, the staff really brought the vibe down. Rude, dismissive, and just generally seemed like they didn’t want to be there. It’s disappointing when a place with so much potential gets dragged down by bad service. I’d love to come back, but only if the attitude improves.

I love coming here for the Calgary Poetry Slam nights that come up once a month. I always have great service, my drink is always full, and the atmosphere is comfortable and always accepting. I haven't tried the food yet, so I can't comment on that.
