Had a lovely time here. Meat was good quality, bbqs are designed so smoke doesn't rise from it into the table area. Fair pricing. Had the lunch menu 3 BBQ items - excellent stuff!

Food was good, and the value menu was enough for 3 of us with one extra meat plate. The vegetable (zucchini, mushroom, etc) were super good and the marinade was quite good. The staff were also nice and helpful. It was not busy on a weekday evening around 5pm but it got busier at the end

Came here on a Monday night with my parents and it was a lovely experience!! We had lots of fun and so much food with the meat variety combo! Great service and a lovely welcoming ambiance with a pitcher of Sapporo to tie it all together! Definitely will be back. Very busy though would recommend a reservation.

I would have rated higher but I couldn't get past how filthy this restaurant is. 😫 The moment I walked in you could smell the dirt. The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting and the light switches around the building. I only stayed as my daughter really wanted to try it and we were already there. I wouldn't be surprised if we become sick later. The food was good (again, not sure if it has been properly stored or cooled before hand given the state of the rest of the restaurant) but the cleanliness needs some major work. I spent $140 and while the premis and idea of the experience is cool; I could not get past the sheer filth. I won't go here again, but I'll try other Japanese BBq in the future hoping for a much better experience.

We used to go to Gyu-kaku quite often, back when it first opened.

I recently called to make a reservation for 6 people and a toddler. They require an 18% tip (to be expected) but also a credit card to make a reservation for larger groups. If you have to cancel the reservation you will be charged $20 per person. That put a sour taste in my mouth, but we kept the reservation.

Upon getting to the restaurant (we hadn't been there for 5 years) it's definitely not as nice as it used to be. Duct tape keeping the seats together, dust on the walls, ceiling and light fixtures. Could do with a decent clean.

Our party was down to 5 people and a toddler (2 years old), and we were all interested in the all-you-can-eat option, except for the grandma at the table. The server wouldn't let us do that, as everyone at the table needs to get all-you-can-eat (except kids under 2 . 3 years and older need to pay a reduced rate).

The food was great, and we had a good time, however the toddler did not have anything from the kids menu, just shared some noodles and gyoza from our own plates.
When it was time to pay, we paid with cash, gave our tip (15%) and were told we needed to tip 18%. We clarified, and they were counting our toddler as the 6th person, even though she didn't order any food. (Even though kids under 2 don't qualify to pay for the all-you-can-eat. So I'm not entirely too sure why my 2 year old was being counted as an adult?)

Anyways, very easy to say, we will never be back. Food is good, service was alright, but if you're going to have such strict rules, and so many, maybe try cleaning up the place a bit and make it worth the ridiculous rules.

The assortment is good, but part of the meat was hard and the price was too high.

We have been coming to this Gyukaku for years ever since they opened this restaurant. But after tonight, we are thinking we will not come back again, there are so many more bbq restaurants in Calgary.

We always get a course, tonight we were just so happen to be there for happy hour, but there was only 1 course for happy hour, which was the cheapest option. They gave us all you can eat menu, but they said they won’t serve AYCE at that time of the day. We were not going to order anyways but they should not have given AYCE menu.

They got our drink order wrong, they did not bring dipping sauce until everything we ordered was on the table. We needed to wait for the sauce to come. Beer was not very cold, this never happened in our previous visit, their service went down by a lot, unfortunately.

While meat was ok, the quality was no longer there. We got a lot of small bits in our meat, thickness was also not consistent. Not happy, especially when we ordered a la carte.

They never changed our grill, never came to top up water. Charged for hot sauce(they used to provide for free).

Price has gone up just as all the other restaurants did, with their quality going down, I just do not feel Gyukaku is at the same level as other bbq restaurants.

The waiters were very friendly. The location is great.
The food is OK. The Vancouver location has really good food and ambience.
The ambience can use a lot of maintenance. Furniture are duck taped. I personally won't be going back.

First time visiting the restaurant. My friend took me. Had a blast. Good was great. Would highly recommend going once and trying it out. Cooking your own meal in a restaurant.
5 star all the way
