The food at Nopu was amazing, super fresh fish, great flavors, and everything tasted really high quality. Cocktails were great, and the Basque cheesecake was so good. Only downside was the service; our server didn’t seem to know the menu very well and for a restaurant of this type I expected a bit better service. But overall, the food alone makes it worth going!

We had the Omakase tasting menu and it was amazing! One of, if not the, best meal we've ever had. Definitely recommend the sake pairing as well. The chef explained each dish as he served it and each dish was different and delicious. The quality of fish was top notch and the service was just right.
Update: went back for omakase again with sake pairings and it was still phenomenal.

Sushi rice was a bit hard tonight. The duty manager's way of handling the situation was unsatisfactory—almost dismissive. There wasn't a hint of genuine apology; instead, he tried to entertain us with some fabricated story about the Blue Jays baseball team. This happened on the evening of October 31. There were only three tables in the entire restaurant, all occupied by Chinese customers. It was such an unlucky date night. We've always been regulars at this place and its sister restaurants. But after this experience, it's definitely going on our blacklist. The manager's approach was utterly speechless.

Tried the omakase dinner. Usually omakase in the bigger cities like Vancouver or Toronto have 20 pieces and Nupo has 8 pieces. Calgarians are getting ripped off. The dishes were also super salty and smothered in sauce.

This was one of the best culinary evenings I have ever had. Cost was high, but the taste and experience was beyond my expectations. We did the chef tasting menu and I added the in the drink pairings as well. All the food was next level and education about all the different Sake was much appreciated.
This is a meal that I will not soon forget.

The ingredients were fresh, and the sake pairing was decent. However, today’s omakase was a bit of a miss — the sushi rice temperature was a total failure. The first two pieces had completely hot rice, and later the chef seemed to notice and adjusted it, but then the rice turned too dry.

Fantastic experience! Superb service, outstanding sake selection. The food menu selection is one of the best in YYC. Each order exceeded expectations. A must visit if in the area.

I’m not sure if having both à la carte and omakase in the same space is a good idea. It feels a bit greedy, or at least the space doesn’t seem big enough to accommodate both experiences.
The food and the chef were outstanding. The rice on the nigiri was seasoned to perfection, in my opinion. The menu wasn’t strikingly creative, but it was well-balanced, and every single dish was well made. The dessert, however, looked poorly prepared.
The service from the chef and our hostess was amazing—attentive and polite.
The reason for the -2 stars was that the other staff were quite loud. One of them, who appeared to be a manager, she didn’t come across as professional as one should in an upscale dining space.
Another downside was that about 50% of the menu was prepared in another space and brought over. That would have been fine, but the pacing suffered since some dishes took much longer to serve.
I think Nupo has so much potential, as the food itself is truly delicious.

Love the idea and atmosphere but we agree with other reviewers that the service and more importantly, the food, was a big disappointment.
We did the tasting menu and the nigiri was not at all authentic as the rice was cold and not seasoned correctly. The fish itself was just ok for the price. We found the quality of food to be much better at RAW around the corner (where we went immediately after Nupo since we were still hungry after the pricey tasting menu). If you’ve had halfway decent sushi in any big city then definitely skip eating here as you’ll be underwhelmed. For a sushi fix, head to RAW.

Still dreaming about the Omakase experience we had on August 15. The chef was attentive and knowledgeable and the food was incredible. Can’t wait to be back!

It was our 1st year anniversary. The hostess was so friendly on our arrival and congratulated us on our night. The server was kind too. Food was good however very high in price for what it was. We payed our bill and tipped handsomely more then 25% and began to leave when the manager (we assume) with glasses came running outside in public and accused us of not paying. Insulting, embarrassing and very unprofessional.
I’m gonna give it a 5 because 4.5 don’t exist on google reviews. The food, drinks and service was all amazing. I also seriously loved the atmosphere of this place. We did a tasting menu which was phenomenal, was it worth the price? We don’t think so, I feel like there could’ve been more fish with our meals. Next time we’ll probably just order off the regular menu

Just had the best food experience with my 12 year old son. He asked the waiter at the bar to pick food for us. We were served 6 or 7 different plates followed by deserts. The passion with which each serving was described to us by the staff and manager was incredible. Delicious and great quality food. Thank you for this opportunity!
