I recently had a mocha cake for a family birthday. The cake looked great, nicely decorated and the staff was friendly. I was excited to serve it. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to expectations. The cake was dry and the buttercream was bland. It was neither creamy, buttery or sweet. My search for an above average mocha cake continues.

The mango cake was literally one of the best cakes I've ever had and for a really fair price! They were so sweet as well, welcoming me in and immediately offering me and sample that was so delicious :))

I can’t express how much I and my wife love this bakery. They are the best bakers who happen to be kindest people as well. We have tried almost all of their breads and cakes. If you’re lucky and the Spanish bread is just fresh out of the oven, it’s too good to pass up. Warm, sweet and buttery. My all-time favorite was the Sans Rival cake shavings. I used to buy 10 packs at a time and eat them daily. It was something to obsess about. Perhaps unhealthily. I am not a big cake eater but when it comes to their chocolate and mango cakes, you bet I will devour the whole thing if I could. If you love custard, you can never go wrong trying their Brazo de Mercedes. For hot chocolate and coffee pairing, I suggest Spanish bread and the crinkle cookies. For teas, opt for their sublime Brazo de Mercedes.

This isn’t the first time we ordered a cake from Purple Yum, but the caramel cake is by far my favourite. We also bought chocolate crinkles and chicken pie, and both were delicious.

We recently tried Purple Yum Cakes & Pastries and ordered their Ube cake, overall, a really great experience.

The cake itself was delicious and clearly made with care. From the presentation alone, you can tell it’s a well crafted dessert. The layers looked even and moist, with a generous amount of cream filling in between, and the texture struck a nice balance, not too dense, not too airy. The ube flavour came through nicely without being overpowering, and the sweetness was just right, making it easy to go back for another bite.

It’s the kind of cake that feels thoughtfully made and well loved, perfect for sharing at a gathering or bringing to a celebration. You can really see the attention to detail in how it’s assembled, from the clean layers to the overall finish.

The bakery itself offers a nice variety of cakes and pastries, and everything in the display case looked fresh and inviting. The space felt a bit small but organized, making it easy to browse and choose something.

We’d definitely come back again to try more of their offerings. If you’re a fan of ube desserts or unique pastries, Purple Yum is definitely worth checking out.

I have a sweet tooth and very picky with cakes….this one is the best chocolate roll I have tried here in Calgary so far. The choco icing is yum and the choco buttercream filling balances the sweetness. I love its choco sponge cake, not dry like the others. We also got the ube cake for my son’s birthday and it was a winner too! So homemade, not dry and just the right sweetness. I cannot wait to try their yema cake and choco cake. Will definitely recommend. This is my new favorite cake shop! Worth the drive from the SE!

Amazing pastries and desserts! Got an ube cake for my family for Christmas and it was a favourite. Not too sweet and very tasty.
