Server there was horrible, bad service, will never go back
Amazing quality food, both raw sushi and cooked options are great.
Good variety on menu and everything is good!
Only place in Calgary that I can find that has butterfish!
Kid friendly environment.

I have to thank the staff of Anzu for serving us so close to closing, they were kind and served amazing food. Their hell ramen was very delicious perfect amount of spicy for a late lunch. Their sashimi was very tasty and it was a lovely time.

I had a very poor service experience tonight as our waitress (seemed new to the job, heavyset woman) actually dipped her thumb into my soup udon as she served it to me. She also didn't seem to have very good customer service skills in general.
I've been going to Sushi Bistro Anzu quite regularly over the years and the food and service has been quite good and consistent up until now. Hopefully this was an isolated incident. Will update this review if subsequent experiences improve.

Tried their lunch menu, and excited to go back!
Food: we tried their charashi and udon combo, tonkotsu ramen, and an order of Negitoro maki roll. Negitoro maki was really good. Charashi bowl and udon was such an interesting combo and not usually found on a menu - fish was fresh, udon was very satisfying and delicious. My husband enjoyed his tonkotsu. I found the broth to be a bit salty near the end, but overall it was very nicely done.
Service: very attentive and authentic. Took us back to how it would be in Japan.
Atmosphere: the little booths add a nice authentic touch, otherwise, clean and welcoming.
Value: solid for the quality and quantity. Definitely will be top of mind.
Would recommend trying for sure! 👍

We are originally from Japan and visited this restaurant while spending time in Calgary.
If you’re looking for a truly authentic Japanese restaurant in Calgary, this is the place to go.
We’re often skeptical about Japanese restaurants in North America, as many are owned and operated by non-Japanese cooks (mostly Koreans or SEA) without formal training in Japanese cuisine hence heavy to fancy looking rolls which are not authentic Japanese. However, this experience was a very pleasant surprise as Anzu is owned and operated by experienced Japanese.
We ordered a variety of appetizers and mains, including agedashi tofu, seaweed salad, chicken karaage, edamame, chirashi sushi. Even the tsukidashi accompanying beer was very authentic and good. Every dish was impressive — the dashi, overall seasoning, and freshness were spot-on. The sashimi preparation were done correctly and served fresh.
Our server were Japanese as well, which added to the authenticity and warm hospitality.
Sushi Bistro Anzu has become our go-to Japanese restaurant in Calgary. Highly recommended!

I'm extremely disappointed by my experience at Sushi Bistro Anzu. My birthday supper was ruined by a food allergy contamination. The service was terrible, almost comically bad. No offers to correct their mistakes were made. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES.
Authentic Japanese food, fresh and delicates, delicious and the price reasonable.

Excellent food. Beef don is especially tasty with tender thinly sliced beef plus very good rice. Salmon belly simply delicious
A great place for traditional Japanese food. The sushi and sashimi selection here is exceptional with highlights like tsubugai, aji, and ume shiso. Prices here are also very good. Rustic and clean. Loved it.
