I don't get this place. They were really good when they originally opened, but since then the whole thing has just declined into mediocrity. And now they are just...closed? Like closed for good or what? There is a for sale sign outside the building, and a handwritten note in the window saying they are closed until further notice, whatever that means. The calzones themselves were really good, but you had to get them fresh. The frozen ones were gummy and tasteless, and they got soggy if you did takeout. But the fresh ones in house were really good. Service was hit and miss. The building is dingy and the interior just seemed half-assed. It had the ingredients for greatness once. Pity that it went downhill the way it did.

A small family restaurant nearby the old colosseum. Me and my friend got the “Classico” and it was the best calzone I’ve had in a while. The staff are friendly and the $15 price for a large flaky calzone is a GREAT deal.

Was looking for a Calzone after finding out Sbarro is no longer around and just stumbled across Battista's. Was not disappointed, Amazing food, and amazing atmosphere, they made it a very personal experience by coming and talking to my family while we waited for our order. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.

The fresh dough and fillings were cooked to perfection. 10/10 would recommend - you will not be dissapointed.

Made fresh right on the spot! I've had a couple of the calzone's here now including the truffle, spicy Italian and even the Nutella/dessert calzone. I like the dough and herb blend they use quite a bit, ingredients inside are pretty good as well ( I believe sourced at the Italian market).
One thing I really appreciate is how down to earth Batista is. Every time I'm inside waiting, he'll make small talk with you and answer any questions you might have about the store and it's history.
