I love this place… I tried to go there a few times a year… Great food, cosy atmosphere… Honestly, I don’t understand how people can give this place a bad review

Absolutely love this place! The bagels are perfectly chewy with just the right crisp on the outside, and the spreads are so fresh. Staff are warm and welcoming!

Fantastic Bennie's always prepared flawlessly. The only negative is to plan ahead and not eat for the rest of the day because you'll be full for a while.

Let’s start with the good,
The atmosphere was a vibe and the music was ok
Staffing,
As a server myself I was very shocked and disappointed that there was NO support, there was roughly 9tables on the floor (with pretty decent turnover) , but the server was dealing with the lunch rush, answering the phone, making drinks, seating people, taking orders, payments, and flipping tables (cleaning them), and can’t forget running food too. All by herself. No manager or supervisor or SOMEONE to support her, of course when the rush was over it was much more relaxed. But the result of no support can easily make people antsy and upset with ruining the whole experience.
First Impression ,
My party was of 9people and with there only being roughly 9 tables we knew there would be a wait. I decided (as they don’t take reservations) to go in and reserve a table for us at 10:40, was quoted about 45min which we kind of predicted (the rest of my party started arriving 11:30) As I waiting I asked for a water which took about an hour to get to me :/ . When the rest of my party arrived at 11:30ish we waiting for an additional 15min for a table that sat 6 comfortably. (No problem once the table beside us left we would migrate over to it)
So roughly 1hour and 20ish min till we had our tables.
Timing,
Once everyone arrived we ordered drinks and we asked for water aswell, took about 30min to make our drinks (coffees, pop) , and another hour for the water. During that time we thankfully ordered our food around the same time our drinks arrived. The food took sooooo long to make, we got our water an hour after we asked for them, and our food like an additional 20min after the water. I am not sure what the kitchen looks like or how big it is but if we knew it would have taken that long we would’ve eaten somewhere else. (And of course I am keeping in mind we are a table of 9 but if there would be a long wait I would like to know)
The food 👎🏼,
The potatoes lacked LOTS of flavour, and the fruits were warm. Obviously there are factors to the fruits but i rather quality than presentation, (put the fruits in a separate bowl away from a heat lamp if that is a factor.) but overall food as MID.
The food👍🏼,
The presentation was very pretty, but the food itself was ok. I thought the bagels were yummy and the cream cheese was ok depending of which flavour (we got some jalepino)
The fruits were obviously good, they were fruits. And the eggs need some work :/
Overall,
I don’t think I will be coming back, the pricing is pretty reasonable for the amount you get and labour costs. And if I were to come it would be with 4 or less people. Once again I understand for a small restaurant like this one, 9 people is a lot, but large parties should be expected anywhere, it is my mom’s birthday today and she really wanted to try this spot. So glad we had each other to accommodate for the long wait but really disappointed overall :/
Alsooo, as much as I felt for the server when there was only two tables left (us and one other) she wasn’t attentive, I get there is a lot to catch up on. But there was no apologies for the wait, no acknowledgment on even maybe thanking us for being patient. No actual service.

Best place I've been to for breakfast in years!!!! It's hard to find places like this. Most definitely will be my new favorite place. Huge portions, so it's a plus. We couldn't even finish our food. Also the coffee!!! Oh my gosh... highly recommend 👌

Have been driving by for ever. Daughter suggested fathers day lunch. Good parking across the street. Very non descript. Stunning inside. Very friendly staff. Daughter and youngest son got a corner booth. Service was not quick. Fathers day. Not in a hurry. Stunning food. Great size servings. Great Taste. Daughter is picky eater. Does not eat anywhere. Will be back.

Server was rude. Food very overpriced, $20 for a bagel and cream cheese with some sides? Get real. Place was cute inside, however.

Extremely disappointing experience that tarnished the restaurant’s reputation. The waiter was incredibly rude and dismissive, with a clear attitude problem. Despite being the first to order, our food arrived over an hour late—after everyone else had already been served. When it finally came, it was completely different from what we had requested, even though the waiter had taken down specific instructions. To make matters worse, the manager made no effort to address or resolve the issue. I ended up paying $60 for a meal I could barely eat. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, not even my worst enemy.

We have been going to New York Bagel for over two decades now, and over the years, the quality of food has never once wavered. Grace, the owner and chef, puts her heart and soul into every meal she cooks, and her husband, who is often waiting tables, is funny and helpful— a fantastic server. In the summer, their patio is one of the nicest in the city: a private space, with beautiful flower boxes and tons of sun and shade.
Be aware, however, because it is family owned, the service, though great, can often be very slow. It’s not unusual to wait 30-45 minutes for food As such, we would recommend this restaurant to anyone, local or visiting, who wants a slow morning with homemade food and a cozy atmosphere.

Great place. Definitely coming back.
Ordered the Hawaiian bagel and Spanish bagel. I liked better the Hawaiian. The coffee was ok.
Service was flawless. Interior looks old but in a good way. Kinda vintage.

Cozy, unique and comfortable interior space. Menu has lots of options, food quality and presentation is great. The only downside is the wait times, otherwise would recommend checking this place out at least once!

5 stars!! This place has been our go-to brunch spot for years! It’s a small and rustic place with lots of personal touches. There’s a nice patio too. They serve large portions with quality ingredients and is my favourite place for eggs Benedict. This time I got the smoked meat Bosnian style with pickled plum and my husband got the Bosnian sausage Bennie’s; Both were delicious and served with lots of fresh fruit and potatoes. The kids had the classic breakfast. I always get the house coffee, it’s very rich, almost like an espresso and comes with steamed milk. It’s a must try brunch place in Edmonton!
