We went here during lunch rush hour. The place was busy, and we were seated at the last available table. However, we weren't informed that the food would take long to be served to us (for almost an hour). There was a lady who ordered her food 30 minutes before we arrived, and after 1 hour, she still didn't get her order until she just left. The starters - salad was served after 10 minutes and miso soup wasn't served until after 20 minutes and it was cold. The food was okay so I gave it a 3 but the service is really bad. I have gastritis, and I should be eating my food on time. If not, I would get very acidic and my stomach would hurt alot. When I got home, as what I expected, my gastritis attacked again because of the waiting time. There were a lot of customers who waited for their food for almost an hour. The staff were apologetic, but we would have appreciated it more if they informed us right when we got seated so we could have decided if we'd stay or go to a different place. Especially for me since I can't eat not on time. As much as I would like to try this place again, I will not come back anymore.

I ate a memorably poor meal at this restaurant. It was awful. Every dish was bad. The textures, flavours & composition were awful. When asked if we were enjoying our meal, we were honest. We told the server that we did not like the food and we gave specific feedback on each dish and why we did not like it.The restaurant staff were utterly indifferent to our negative experience. We paid our bill & left.Thankfully I will never allow myself to be drawn to this little piece of gastronomic hell ever again. What was most galling was that the staff — after asking whether we liked our food — was utterly indifferent & unresponsive when provided with honest feedback. The fish that we were served actually smelled old & stale. The rice was almost like a porridge. The chicken was tasteless & incredibly greasy. Frankly the food I was served should have been thrown in the garbage — it was just that badUPDATE: The restaurant manager today, after I posted my review, offered to give me back half of the money I spent at their restaurant if I would agree to take down my review. The total cost of the meal I ate there with my wife & daughter was $135.85. 50% of that amount is $67.93.Apparently, for this business, integrity & truth can be sold for less than $70.00.I wonder if this restaurant has a “policy” of attempting to pay off bad reviews to be taken down since that was exactly what they did with me. My negative feedback on a terrible, stale, badly cooked meal was utterly worthless to them until I posted a review. It is what it is.There are many other sushi restaurants in the Edmonton area that I will frequent again. I gave Shoyu Sushi a chance, but I will not do that again. They can keep my $68.00 if a refund is contingent on me essentially lying about my experience here and taking down my review. It’s disturbing that this restaurant would prefer to pay off customers to take down bad reviews than to fix their food. I hope others don’t fall into the same trap that we did.

Ate here last Saturday for their Downtown Dining week menu, 5pm reservation party of 2. The food was really delicious and great and the amount of food recieved is well worth the $35 paid, but the only lacking was the Service. It was not busy enough for the lack of service we recieved. Nobody came to ask/refill our drinks, we had to ask and when we asked for take out containers, the waitress initially forgot and then only gave us 1, and we had to ask again for another. Because of the service unfortunately, we will not be back which is a shame as the food was really good.

Let's get one thing straight. Staff is very nice and friendly. We did Edmonton Dining Week option. The first 2 courses were delicious and definitely deserve 5 stars (roll and sashimi). But, the 3rd course was a Bento box. It was horrible. I ate about half until I had to admit it was not good. The tempura was basically white and barely fried. Heavy batter that was soggy. Same with the fried chicken pieces. Zero crisp. Almost unedible. The teriyaki chicken sauce was very sweet but the chicken was cooked right. Didn't care for the seaweed salad at all. The takoyaki was actually very good though. We were a group of 3. 2 Bento boxes were sent out while our 3rd friend waited over 20 minutes for hers. That was pretty unacceptable but staff did apologize. If you wish to reach out I am willing to try again and give this place another chance. I understand it was Edmonton Dining Week and it can be busy but the truth is I really thought the 3rd course was very poorly made.

We started off our dinner with the miso soup, and it took me right back to Japan! Loved the bento box option, which lets you taste all their good dishes at one go at a reasonable price! Picking a favorite is very hard as every single item was equally good. But my personal favorite would be the soup and the takoyaki.Best takoyaki I've tasted in Canada so far. I didn't expect the crab cucumber salad to be so good, but it surprised me with how delicious it was. Assorted tempura was super fresh. And the service resonates with the culture in Japan. Definitely going to be my go to Japanese cuisine place!

Hands down, Shoyu Shushi is one of my top 3 best ramen spots in Edmonton! The cucumber salad was really really good too.
