Fun fact: every birthday cake that I’ve ever bought in my entire adult life has been from the Italian Bakery's Mercato in St Albert. I don’t make it to this location often anymore but when I do I make the most of it. Get your groceries for the week, enjoy some food and drinks that they don’t have at your local grocery store and make sure you sit back at the cafe/bakery and enjoy some espresso and gelato. I had visited a fancy cake shop in Arizona and desperately wanted to find somewhere that had similar cakes. I discovered Mercato and my first cake was the birthday. I was ecstatic because it tasted almost the same as the expensive wedding cake shop in Arizona. (Only that shop has raspberry in the middle, take note Mercato. Lol) It was rich and flavorful but not too sweet. Very dense so a piece is quite filling.
